Hello, so I can’t decide between these two names. Do you like them or dislike them? What are your general impressions of them? I find them to be quite similar to Kristy and Kristen but slightly prefer Kirsty/Kirsten because names beginning with Chris are extremely common in my experience.

I prefer Kirsten and kirsty spelt Kirstie.

Susannainblue · 19/08/2023 09:53

I prefer Kristen, instead of Kirsten or Kirstine is nice too. Not a fan of Kirsty as it makes me think of kiesty, which where I'm from is local dialect for a fussy person.

No worries I appreciate all honest feedback. ❤️

Sorry, to be the negative one, but I have always very, very much disliked Kirsty/Kirsten. I think they sound whingy, harsh and clangy. There are so many beautiful girl's names, and these just don't even come close.

flutterbean · 19/08/2023 09:49

I'm a Kirsten but regularly get called Kirsty as well.

I do find those unfamiliar with the name call my Kristy a lot or Kristen but it's quite easy to correct them.

I never got called any nicknames like thirsty or crusty or anything else when i was younger. I wouldn't have thought youngsters today would do this either.

Very 90s. Loved Kirsten on the cbbc

Patlovesroses · 19/08/2023 09:46

I also seen someone mention that Kirsty sounds a lot like ‘thirsty’ or ‘crusty’. I know it’s silly but do you think this is a deal breaker?

I like both. I’d probably go for Kirsten.

Love kirsten (I have one so biased), you don't hear of many but easy to spell, hth

Ryanstartedthefire2 · 19/08/2023 09:44

I really like Kirsty. Surprised it isn't more popular. I like Kirsten too. You could use Kirsten and Kirsty for short if you couldn't decide.

Plump82 · 19/08/2023 09:43

I love Kirsty. I'm Scottish and it's a name I reckon should be used more. I have a lovely friend called Kirsty. Kirsten is ok. Not my favourite.

atthebottomofthehill · 19/08/2023 09:41

They feel quite 80s to me but I suppose that's coming back isn't it. I don't really like either and agree Kristy is quite American... but you choose what you like, that's al that matters really.

To me Kirsty sounds Scottish and Kirsten sounds German if that helps at all
