My husband hates every name!!

Dh is driving me loopy with his lack of flexibility on names. We are expecting a boy in two weeks and we still don’t even have any names we both like. Names we have are as follows:
Ollie (ambivalent but we don’t like it)
Jordan (I hate but dh likes)
Every name I suggest dh hates, the only name he’s come up with is Jordan. Dh likes gender neutral names which I don’t mind but I want something masculine sounding.

Oscar or Toby

SkaneTos · 18/08/2023 22:18

Maybe a name from your families or ancestors?

But I also think mathanxiety's suggestions is good. Try that.

Good luck!

mathanxiety · 18/08/2023 22:13

Obelisk?
He is trying to wind you up. Give him a deathstare amd tell him you don't find him funny.

The two of you need to come up with a list of 12 names each.

You both get to strike 8 names from each other's list.

You will be left with 8 names to choose from (first plus middle).

Suggestions:
Austin
Finn
Justin
Finley
Fraser
Fergus
Euan
Rafferty

Jacob ! That's great. Who cares if it's close to a relatives name as long as it isn't a sibling that should be fine.

Juggernaut was my genuine reaction to the suggestion Obelisk as well pp. He’s just told me he likes Jacob (I do too) however we can’t use it as it’s a close relatives name!

Isn't there an app where you both tap names you like (separately) then the app pulls them into a list, of only the names you both "liked"?

Frankly if the baby is getting dhs surname, abd you've been the one to carry and deliver him, then I'd say you get the say, provided its not one dh actually hates.

cherryassam · 18/08/2023 21:20

Is it worth trying to go with it and finding either a fictional character or sportsman name that you are happy with?

ArabiaSpainRedLime · 18/08/2023 21:20

Robin

Hi @ImNotAMermaid
My husband was the same, he didn't agree on any name. When i did find a name, he was more happy about the meaning of the name than the actual name lol and was happy to go with it!
You could try looking up the meaning of a name you like hopefully this will convince your husband like it did mine! Xx

At this point I’m convinced the only names dh likes are of fictional characters or sportsmen! It feels like we’ll never get anywhere!!

ImNotAMermaid · 18/08/2023 21:14

Dh has also suggested Obelisk nn ‘Obie’ but I think it sounds ridiculous!! I don’t want to name my baby after a comic character or a stone monument!!
