Eliza mae

I realise how common mae is.. it seems like every child is either mae or rose.

What do you think of this name
Hubbys and mine grandmothers were called Elizabeth and Margaret. I thought it would be a lovely nod to them. We wanted something more trendy so shortened as we didn't want her having an old lady names compared to her friends.

I'd go with Elizabeth Daisy

In which case the Baby Names board Mae (see what I did there) as well not exist.

Unless you want a series of 'do whatever you like' responses.

Sometimes people can give too much credence to the opinions of MN strangers, so saying 'go with your gut' can be helpful. It's okay to call your daughter Mae even if Sophie in Swindon thinks it's hideous.

And personally I much prefer the lively Eliza to dusty old Elizabeth.

YES! Eliza over Elizabeth every time. Eliza tends to stick as a name whereas Elizabeth turns into Liz, Lizzie, Liza, Beth, Lilibet, etc etc. And also, if you're going to get cranky and and yell at them (which you will at some point, regardless of how brilliant a parent you are), Eliza Mae rolls off the tongue!

Agree with Mae not being a good choice.

Eliza Margaret
Eliza Margot
Eliza Molly

All sound good.

All good except Eliza Molly. That one is awful.

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2023 01:33

Eliza is fine.

The spelling Mae is awful - May is much better. It's every other girl's middle name though.

And for the love of God, don't hyphenate it.

I say if you like Eliza Mae go for it, it’s your baby and there’ll always be 100’s of people who don’t like the name and 100’s who do. Doesn’t matter either way

The middle name 'mae' is chav Central or American deep south ,or both

Eliza mae sounds nice but the whole mae thing is so over done. Is mae even a real name?

RitzyMcFitzy · 19/08/2023 01:01

RitzyMcFitzy · 19/08/2023 01:01

Ignore all the people suggesting margo/t. Has ever a name been so overdone in so short a time?

RoseMartha · 19/08/2023 00:55

I would use Elizabeth Margaret as well.

Enko · 19/08/2023 00:12

I prefer Elizabeth Margaret. Shorten if you want but that's a lovely classic name.

Nevermay · 19/08/2023 00:02

marshmallowfinder · 18/08/2023 19:48

I dislike Eliza. The e gets too easily dropped in speech, so they end up as 'Liza. Mae is awful. Give her her own name. A nod to this, a nod to that...it's not necessary. She's her own person. Her great grandmothers are no less special if you don't use their names.

I am my own person but live the fact that I have my great grandmothers name

AuntieEsther · 18/08/2023 20:23

Mae is naff and it's not Margaret so it doesn't mean anything. Eliza or Elizabeth Margaret.

RosaSkye · 18/08/2023 20:14

I don’t hate Mae but i’d hands down go for

Margo Elizabeth

or

Eliza Margaret

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2023 20:09

Mae isn't a form of Margaret, but May was traditionally a diminutive of Mary.

Margaret had diminutives like Maggie, Margo, Daisy and Greta - all of which are ok

PerspiringElizabeth · 18/08/2023 20:09

Love it! Maybe loads of kids have Mae as a middle name but I don’t know any of my kids’ school friends’ middle names so why would they know hers? Who cares.

Also my kids bloody love meeting other kids with their names 😍

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2023 20:07

Not keen on Eliza. Mae is dreadful.
I like Elizabeth and Margaret.
I'd use Elizabeth Margaret, and use Eliza as a short form.

Minglemangle007 · 18/08/2023 19:51

Elizabeth Anne?

Sandysandwich · 18/08/2023 19:50

Eliza is a brilliant name and Mae goes well with it as a middle name and is probably the best you can get out of Margaret

Absolutelynotfornow · 18/08/2023 19:49

Eliza yes
Mae No

How about Eliza Maggie? I agree with others that Mae is done to death at this point.

TetrapanaxRex · 18/08/2023 19:06

Eliza Mae sounds like she belongs in the Beverley Hillbilly's.
