Eliza mae

I realise how common mae is.. it seems like every child is either mae or rose.

What do you think of this name
Hubbys and mine grandmothers were called Elizabeth and Margaret. I thought it would be a lovely nod to them. We wanted something more trendy so shortened as we didn't want her having an old lady names compared to her friends.

Eliza Mae sounds like she belongs in the Beverley Hillbilly's.

So true🤣

VenusClapTrap · 20/08/2023 11:20

I’d go for Eliza Marguerite. Lovely name.

Lisbeth50 · 20/08/2023 11:04

Now you've mentioned that the Grandmother Margaret was know as Mae, I've changed my mind a little. It's different if it has a meaning behind it. Did she really spell it like that though?

Eliza May or Elizabeth May could work.

StillWantingADog · 20/08/2023 09:17

Eliza is great
Mae is awful- but even worse with a hyphen

Eliza Margaret is great IMO. I wouldn’t use it as a first name but Margaret is fabulous. I know one in her 30s, suits her so well.

I'd go with Elizabeth Daisy

Agree 🌼🌼🌼

RuthW · 19/08/2023 17:49

It's lovely.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/08/2023 17:35

Having explained why you have chosen Mae it is more understandable .It's a nice story and people rarely use second names anyway.

Moveoverdarlin · 19/08/2023 17:33

May is bad. Mae is even worse.

Elizabeth Margot is absolutely beautiful.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/08/2023 17:32

I prefer Elizabeth to Eliza but both are good in my book.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/08/2023 17:30

Yes to Eliza .
No to Mae.
If you must have May spell it with a Y.
Margaret is a lovely name and would make a great second name ; if you really don't like it then Peggy or Daisy.

GLmum · 19/08/2023 17:18

Sorry, I'm with the others. Eliza is lovely, Mae im afraid not.

I do like Eliza Margot though!

continentallentil · 19/08/2023 17:15

Eliza very nice, Mae is terrible

Elizabeth is v popular right now, so I’d just go for Elizabeth Margaret nn Eliza, but Eliza Margot is also v nice

In which case the Baby Names board Mae (see what I did there) as well not exist.

Unless you want a series of 'do whatever you like' responses.

Fair enough….. she asked opinions and I gave it. Would I call my child Eliza or Mae or Elizabeth or Margaret not a chance in hell, but If OP likes it who cares?? I don’t care what other people think of my childs names, I was just offering my opinion christ

TidyDancer · 19/08/2023 12:35

I really can't stand Eliza but Elizabeth as a full name is beautiful. Depending on your surname, if you're set on going for both the names then I would go for Mae Elizabeth.

M00nknight · 19/08/2023 12:31

The reason for the spelling Mae was because that's what his grandmother was known as .. Granny Mae.
My grandmother Elizabeth .. some poeple called her Ellie and some called her Liz
This is where we got Eliza Mae

Love Eliza but hate Mae
Eliza Margaret is totally fine

Aquamarine1029 · 19/08/2023 11:54

Eliza Mae can eat some cornbread with her Peepaw.

Mae is dreadful.

@RosaSkye , yes but it has become very popular quickly. Babies called Margot in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)

The others you mentioned show curves that aren't as steep. i don't think it looks or sounds nice, and suspect that people subconsciously choose it because of Margot Robbie.

It has, not sure if that matters in real life though if you like it. You’re still much less likely to have 3 in a year group compared to Sophia or Ella. I personally love it, I just hear Parisian elegance.

Eliza is lovely, and Mae is really tacky and spoils it! There are lots of lovely nicknames for Margaret - Maggie, Daisy, Margo, and Pearl are all nicknames for Margaret!

Eliza Daisy
Eliza Margo
Eliza Pearl

I adore all of these names and they sound gorgeous with Eliza!

OopsieeDaisy · 19/08/2023 10:14

I agree with pps I’d stay away from Mae as a middle name, or at least spell it May. Eliza is ok and I would personally go for Eliza Margaret over Eliza Mae/May - much prefer Eliza to Elizabeth!
Is there a different first name you really love that you would pick if you weren’t trying to incorporate these 2 names? Maybe you could choose a totally different first name and have Mary/Margaret/May and Elizabeth both as middle names.

Theoldwoman · 19/08/2023 06:39

Eliza Mae is a great name! Go for it!

RosaSkye · 19/08/2023 06:00

RitzyMcFitzy · 19/08/2023 01:01

Ignore all the people suggesting margo/t. Has ever a name been so overdone in so short a time?

It’s still far less popular than Isla, Sophia, Olivia, Lily etc

user1492757084 · 19/08/2023 05:38

Eliza is a lovely name. How nice to want to remember your grandmothers.
I also love Elizabeth.

Mae is typically from Mary as is May, Polly, Molly, Maisie etc...

Margaret has diminutives thus - Margot, Maggie, Meg, Meghan, Megan, Daisy, Peg, Peggy, Greta and Gretal and perhaps more.

Do you like ..

Eliza Gretal
Eliza Meghan
Elizabeth Daisy
Eliza Margaret
Elizabeth Meg

Louise303 · 19/08/2023 01:52

My second name is Elizabeth I like it more than Lizzie or Eliza May is nice but Margaret is lovely.
