What comes to mind when you think of the names Hugo and Casper/Caspar on siblings?

Caspar is fab. I also like Balthazar and Melchior but the nn potential is a bit limited.

Hugo is OK nowadays I think but I wouldn't choose it.

Temporaryanonymity · 08/08/2023 00:48

Caspar is VERY popular.

peaceinourtime · 08/08/2023 00:10

Casper/Caspar is nice and different. You don't hear it as much as Hugo. I like it.

palooka47 · 07/08/2023 23:27

Hugo-dog or tweenies
Casper-ghost.

Whadda · 07/08/2023 23:27

HugoGlenCoco (thanks to a hilarious MN thread from years ago).

A little ghost.

Becgoz7 · 07/08/2023 23:26

Hugo reminds me of a dog and casper a ghost 🤣

FrillyGoatFluff · 07/08/2023 23:24

Labrador and German Shepherd

Pinkitydrinkity · 07/08/2023 23:20

Mummy definitely buys Caspar a pain au chocolat from Gail’s and lunch from Ottolenghi on their walk back from dropping Hugo off at school.

Jellycats4life · 07/08/2023 23:16

A little bit social climb-y. Wanting to project a certain posh image.

Jeevesnotwooster · 07/08/2023 23:13

Vicar of Dibley and a ghost

shoopshoopdedoo · 07/08/2023 23:12

Hugo - red trousers and boat shoes. I think it’s very trendy now but I can’t like it because of this association!

Casper - friendly ghost. I think it seems a bit affected as a name (unless Norwegian or something) - as if the parents were trying hard to be different, but not too different.

I don't think of the posh aspect, I think of Hugo as a huge, overweight lump- Huge-O

Casper- I think of the ghost!

Sorry, but these were my honest 1st thoughts.

Friarclose · 07/08/2023 22:54

Private school and lacrosse

Solonomi · 07/08/2023 22:52

Posh upper class nobs, sorry OP

continentallentil · 07/08/2023 22:45

Names that used to be posh and are now quite standard and currently very popular?

Like calling your kids Arthur and Oscar 15 years ago

SkaneTos · 07/08/2023 17:01

Hugo is the son of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/08/2023 17:00

You need to save up for Eton.

overdogged · 07/08/2023 15:47

Yes sorry OP - posh twats wearing red trousers Wink

IsThePopeCatholic · 07/08/2023 15:16

Hugo: a posh twat with halitosis
caspar: scandi boy

whirlyhead · 07/08/2023 14:54

I know several Hugos, none of whom are posh so I wouldn't think that. I also know a Caspian who is definitely posh though!

LainyMainyWainy · 07/08/2023 10:50

They both sound posh to me. I would expect them to be the type of boys who play polo, go to private school etc and parents are rich.

Mushroo · 07/08/2023 10:50

Honestly I think it was a posh family that is a bit try hard. In the same category as Tarquin.

Foppish, pretentious

Saschka · 07/08/2023 10:49

Agree, Hugo is “frightfully posh”. And probably works in banking and is a bit of an overbearing nob at his son’s school sports matches.

Caspar - we have a big German expat population around here, and Caspar is a little blond boy with nice manners and a mum on a cargo bike around here.

user1492757084 · 07/08/2023 10:48

Both nice names.
