Too old man for a baby?!

Midgely23 · 06/08/2023 14:14

My DP wants to call our DS Frank after his grandad. I have had some positive comments but mainly negative. Is it too harsh / old man for a baby?
I do not like Francis or Franklin so it would be just Frank or pick a different name but my DP has his heart set on Frank

I quite like Frank, though I would probably call the baby/young child Frankie. I'd use Frank on the birth certificate though.

@ShitImPregnant , had to look him up, but I also missed Gardner.

Bough, Bruno or Lampard?

Gallagher!

Only in your opinion 😂

FFS. The whole bloody point of the thread is to ask for opinions and that's mine. Likewise it's only nice in your opinion. I'm apparently not alone in thinking that it has a harsh ugly sound either judging by the comments.

Ah, but grammatically you weren't giving your opinion you were stating what you believe was a fact...

I shall swan off to Pedants' Corner now 😂

Angie147836 · 15/08/2023 22:28

Good solid name. I know a 13yr old Frank and an 18yo Frank.

PearlWithoutPrice · 15/08/2023 22:26

Not my taste but it is popular at the moment and likely to get more so now Boris has used it. Frankie is a softer option for a babe.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/08/2023 22:22

It's Boris Johnson new baby's name

Love Frank. There's a famous one with my surname or else I'd use it.

Bough, Bruno or Lampard?

Daphnis156 · 15/08/2023 20:53

I've never considered it an old man name, like Sidney, Malcolm, Walter etc.
Frank is a good name.

I had a boyfriend called Frank when I was 17/18. He’d be 62 now. He hated his name. His middle name was Ambrose, which is worse.

Frank is such an unpleasant and harsh sounding name. It's terrible.

bridgetreilly · 11/08/2023 12:53

You’re naming a person, not just a baby. Frank is a great name.

fantasticfrank · 10/08/2023 22:26

I have a Frank, also named after a grandad. He's just Frank, Francis was his grandad's name but we knew we'd never use it.

Do it, it's not harsh. He hates being called Frankie though...

User3735 · 10/08/2023 22:08

I love Frank, I know several who are all Francis or Franklin (parents all in their 30's) but all known as Frank or Franky 95% of the time, and I think it works as a standalone name.

Thepossibility · 10/08/2023 22:03

I think it's nice. I'd call him Frankie while he was small though, cranky Frankie while he's teething Grin

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 10/08/2023 21:53

I quite like it, and it's no more "old man" than Jack or Harry would have been up to about 30 years ago, or Archie maybe 20 years ago.

He would very likely get called Frankie sometimes, so consider whether you can live with that. It's no fun being the kid who has to keep saying "don't call me that" when people go to call them a very ordinary version of their name that their parents don't like.

Enko · 08/08/2023 09:35

I like Frank a lot. I do not like Francis or Frankie/Franklin

HeyYouWithTheSadFace · 07/08/2023 23:59

Frankie is on trend!

Francis and Franklin are horrific

Fivebeanchilli · 07/08/2023 22:09

I think Frankie is awful. But Frank is nice enough.

Alargeoneplease89 · 07/08/2023 20:59

Oooh Betty.... everytime I hear Frank I think of Frank Spencer 😂

Dacadactyl · 07/08/2023 20:59

I like it

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/08/2023 20:57

I'd prefer Francis and shorten it to Frank.
