I’m a Louise and I’m almost 30, I’ve only ever known one other Louise and I like the name. For girls of my generation so many had Louise as a middle name, think it’s due a comeback.

"Eloise would be one of a zillion Ellies"

I've taught several Eloises over the years. About 5, and I know another 3 socially. Not one of them has ever been called Ellie.

KirstenBlest · 07/08/2023 13:29

They are completely different names and not actually shorter to say.
Eloise is 3 syllables, Louise is 2 syllables, Ellie is 2 syllable. Eloise is longer to say and the o-i bit is a bit harder to say than an ee sound.

Ghostlyfeet · 07/08/2023 10:43

I have an Eloise. She's never been known as Ellie or Louise. They are completely different names and not actually shorter to say. She has though been called weez by younger relations but that has stopped as they get older.

SequinsandStiIettos · 07/08/2023 10:18

Luisa

more modern

Twoshoesnewshoes · 07/08/2023 10:10

Louise is a bit 90s
Eloise is very pretty, the two I know are Elle and Lo for short.
I prefer Louisa/Luisa.

newpictureframe · 07/08/2023 10:03

My daughter's name is Eloise, whereas my husband's previous partner went by Ellie. There has never been an instance where Eloise was referred to as Ellie, Nellie or Weezy or any of that mess! Elle-belle when she was little but she's an Eloise!! I actually preferred Louisa at the time but frustratingly DH's niece was a Louisa so we couldn't use it.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 07/08/2023 09:59

The Louise middle name thing goes right back to the early 80s. This made me smile the other day.

Louise or Eloise

Ellie is my sisters (nick)name so if my dd was an Eloise she would never get ellie.

You won’t have any control of that after the age of five.

WGACA · 07/08/2023 09:48

Eloise is one of my favourite names.

Louise is dated.

She probably would at school

continentallentil · 07/08/2023 09:43

Louise I guess

Eloise would be one of a zillion Ellies

Lois is a bit more interesting I think

professionalprofiterroletester · 07/08/2023 09:36

Appreciate all feedback. Thanks everyone! 😊

DP has gone off Eloise declaring it overly ornate. He prefers Louisa like many here but I struggle to see how it is less ornate than Eloise...

Eloise, because of the Kay Thompson character and the Damned.

Workawayxx · 07/08/2023 09:14

I really like both of them! Eloise just edges it and El is a sweet nickname or it works as a full name imo. Also love Louisa.

professionalprofiterroletester · 05/08/2023 12:34

Thanks all. I can't stand Nelly/ie have a real aversion to it but can't explain why. Louise may be my favourite of the two my only teeny tiny reservation is that its a bit 90s middle name?

I feel that 90's middle name thing. Louisa fixes that though.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 07/08/2023 09:08

Eloise for me, or Louisa.

Lois?

cptartapp · 07/08/2023 07:48

Eloise over Louise, though may get the dreadful Ellie.
Louisa over both.

Enko · 07/08/2023 07:46

Eloisa. Is my personal favourite.

Of Louise and Eloise I prefer Eloise I dislike Lou hence not going for Louise or Louisa

My Eloisa has never had her name shortened. Also we have yet to meet another.

Eloise or Louisa

I also like Heloise. Eloise isn't just Louise with an added E, it's a different name in its own right. I do find Louise a bit bland. Hence my preference for Eloise. I have to say I also really like Louisa, but am
Not so keen on Eloisa.

I completely agree with this.

Gardenerboo · 07/08/2023 03:40

Louise is a classic, beautiful name. What’s not to like?

porridgeisbae · 07/08/2023 03:34

Elouise of course. Louise is completely bland.
