How would you pronounce Romy? I thought it was Row-mee and I thought that was the French too but heard it pronounced now as Roh-me (short oh sound if that makes sense

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Roe-me.

It can’t be Rommy, as in CD ROM or rom-com. It would never be pronounced like that linguistically, because the Y changes the vowel sound, just as the E does in Rome.

And it’s short for Rosemary, so should keep the Rose sound.

Ive never heard it said out loud.

This. Was also about to type CD-ROM as my Rom reference. 😂

PickledScrump · 31/07/2023 20:54

Only ever known it said as Rom-ee as in CD Rom. Not a fan of it

In the film it was Row-me

Row as in your boat.

Roam e

StBrides · 31/07/2023 17:47

BuffaloCauliflower · 31/07/2023 17:20

Row-mee. Pretty sure that’s correct. In English it would be two m’s in the middle to have a short oh sound.

This.

So, the same as in Rome (the city) with a Y on the end.

In English, it would need a double M to be Rom (as in CD Rom) ee (Romm-ee)

OdFoDneighbour · 31/07/2023 17:45

You want to name your child the same as one of Boris Wan Ker Johnson?

JamSandle · 31/07/2023 17:36

Roe-Me

Coronationstation · 31/07/2023 17:36

FleurFarady · 31/07/2023 17:27

ROM same sound as rom-com ( as in a movie) then MEE

LadyDanburysHat · 31/07/2023 17:22

PoseyFlump · 31/07/2023 17:22
