Claire - due a comeback??

RosaSkye · 30/07/2023 17:32

I keep seeing Clara popping up here, so wondered if Claire itself was due a revival?

Obviously popular in the 80s but quite pretty to my ear and I can see it on a baby

I do hope you all realise that one day the Elises, Claras and Amber- Mais of today will be the Sharons and Traceys of future generations?
If you don't like a name there's no need to be rude about it.

Sealover123 · 31/07/2023 21:41

I know a lot of people say it's a pretty name, but I've always disliked it strongly. Don't know why 🤷‍♀️

It's pretty popular in America at the moment. It'll certainly have a comeback here at some point. When the current crop of Claires are in their 80s.

The us didn't suffer the 70s and 80s Claire craze in the same way. Hence why it's popular now.

AnnaNims · 31/07/2023 00:40

I’m a 70s baby and I went to school with so many Clares/Claires. See also Sarah/Alison…

I think it’s dated at the moment, just as Phylis/Doris/Maureen was for our parents’ generation.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 31/07/2023 00:35

I love Claire. Very pretty.

StellaOlivetti · 30/07/2023 23:03

I prefer Clare (favourite spelling) to Clara, it’s simpler and less fussy to my ears. I’d love to see it make a comeback.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/07/2023 23:00

Gorgeous name. Just like it's fellow 70/80's stalwarts Sarah and Laura it has a classic sound with a romantic vibe to me. To be honest I'm surprised Claire ever went away to need a comeback - I guess it happened because it doesn't have the popular "ie/y" or "a/ah" ending. Having to spell it might be a pain though.

Theoldwoman · 30/07/2023 22:44

It’s always been around.

I like Clare.

I can't help but say it in a Cilla Black voice....Clurr
😬
No, not due a comeback.

Yup that’s the pronunciation I hate!

chalkyc2 · 30/07/2023 19:54

My late 1980s high school class - 2 Claire's, 3 Emma's, 3 Lucy's, 2 Sarah's. 2 Jenny's. Scattering of Vicky, Joanne, Alex, and Karen.

I reckon there's a good few years before these names come back!

I love Claire/Claire and wanted to use it for my DD (2) but DH vetoed! He agreed on it as a middle name but it didn’t sound right with the name we chose.

I think it’s a name (like Kate) that sounds sweet on a small person but also ages well unlike a lot of names that are popular at the moment which are quite twee.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/07/2023 19:49

It was a 60s name. There were several Claires in my year group at school and we were born in the mid 60s.

Strange to think that it's becoming a granny name.

KirstenBlest · 30/07/2023 19:46

It's nice the way they say it in the clip because you can hear that it has an r in it .
In lots of accents it sounds like Clair with no r so it just sounds like a noise.

It doesn't matter which spelling you have, it will get a different one.

FloweryWowery · 30/07/2023 19:39

I really like it and have thought it's time for a revival. A very spare name in a good way like Tess, Kate, Nell, Fay

LadyKenya · 30/07/2023 19:36

I never liked that name. It is a bit meh.

RitzyMcFitzy · 30/07/2023 19:35

It always reminds me of The Breakfast Club.

claire is a fat girls name

BAHAHAHA SO FUNNY

RosaSkye · 30/07/2023 19:28

Ohhh a mixed bag! I realise that following the 100 years naming trend there’s some way to go maybe before it’s super popular again…. but I do think it makes a lovely middle name with lots of current popular names

As a Claire all the different variants of spelling are annoying, and it has no easy short version. I also don’t like how it is pronounced in some accents so I hope it doesn’t get revived!!!

Spidey66 · 30/07/2023 19:10

I much prefer Claire (my preferred spelling), Clare and Clair to Clara.

RegainingTheWill2023 · 30/07/2023 19:10

I really like Claire /Clare.
Prefer it to Clara.

Tinytigertail · 30/07/2023 19:09

I like it and think it would work well now.

RoseMartha · 30/07/2023 19:08

I like the name Claire, not that keen on Clara.
