Anyone have a Sunner or Posy?

Does anyone have a Summer or a Posy? Having failed to agree on anything we both like these but don’t know how they are received. Family aren’t keen. We want something that feels happy, conveys warmth, lightness etc

Summer just seems a made up name which will date badly.
Posy will rhyme with nosey at school.

MerryMarigold · 02/08/2023 10:04

I also like April as a name and never come across one, apart from one my age (50).

MerryMarigold · 02/08/2023 10:03

I like them both. I have worked with 2-4 year old for the past 6 years and come across only one Posy, no Summers but tons of Rivers, a Willow, several Elsies.

LunaNorth · 02/08/2023 10:03

Aurora? Conveys light and warmth, and you could go all Gilmore Girls and call her Rory?

Persiana · 02/08/2023 09:56

I find Post just far too twee. Imagine being an adult woman Posy. Names are for life not just cute babies/little children

Marigold - Goldie, Sunny

Posy or Posie is a nick name for Primrose, Josephine or Rose names.
There is also Poesy - meaning verse.

Do you like Rosebud or Rosemary?
Summer is sweet.
I prefer Autumn.

Do you like
Solana
Catalina
Phoebe
Luna
Hester
Cyra
Solfrid

OopsieeDaisy · 02/08/2023 08:57

I quite like Summer. Not keen on Posy.
Daisy and Rosie are much nicer alternatives imo.

Marcipex · 02/08/2023 00:17

The only Summer I know is one whose mother bellows it across the playground. She kind of shouts SAMMA iyswim.

Soleil is pretty and matches the meaning.

I like Posy too, especially as a nn for Primrose.( I know it’s officially a nn for Josephine but that makes no sense to me)

Don't fall into the trap of asking for opinions from your family - it will be liking naming a child by committee. You'll end up with a name that people like sort of, but no one really cares about.

Keep the decision making between yourself and the other parent - you both need to be sure of the name, and that's difficult enough.

I'm personally not a fan of Summer (or any season for that matter) as a name. Posy is OK but maybe difficult to carry off as a stroppy teenager.

Is Sunner an amalgamation of Summer and Stunner?

😁

Summer has gone south a bit and Posy is very babyish for an adult

Posy is a sweet little girl nickname for Rose though, so you could do that?

Stella
Sadie
Lucia
Serena
Juno
Clio
Zoe
Jasmine
Cora
Coral
Flora
Philippa nn Pippa
Francesca nn Frankie

I love Posy. Its top of my girls list name. Not that I'll be having a daughter to use it!

Yourebeingtooloud · 01/08/2023 18:49

I love Posy and disagree it’s cutesy - I know a very elegant adult Posy.

I know a fair few Summers and it’s not a name I would choose personally.

HeyYouWithTheSadFace · 01/08/2023 18:45

I can't imagine an adult with either of those names. They're both a bit cutesy to me

RhosynBach · 01/08/2023 17:17

I like posy as a nickname for primrose . I didn’t know it was a Nickname for Josephine

I also quite like tansy as a flower name. I don’t like summer

Sealover123 · 01/08/2023 17:15

I like both. Who cares what your family think, it's YOUR baby! I never understand why people discuss baby names with relatives before the birth. It's not fair for them to influence the parents' choice of name.

PresentPrincess1 · 01/08/2023 11:31

I like Summer but it feels like it will date badly. I think of it as similar to Dawn. It's nice enough but will fall out of favour, and just stop being used altogether.

Posy seems like a nickname.

Josie? Rosie?

I have a hen called Posy. That’s not meant to be offensive-I use all my favourite girls names on hens as only have one DD.

I do like Josephine nn Posy better though for a human.

The only Summers I know of are a bit rough around the edges so it doesn’t have great associations for me.

MutantTurtles · 01/08/2023 11:14

Posie is short for Joesphine

Summer is short for..
Summer lovin'
Summertime
Summer sale

gjg · 01/08/2023 11:11

Summer is nice, I really like Josephine though, Posy for childhood, then Josie or Josephine as an adult.

Summer is nice but Posy is too babyish IMO. It would be better as a NN but not for Josephine! that's really awful.
I would definitely go for Summer, Daisy, Poppy, Skye are nice too is you want something similar.

Soubriquet · 30/07/2023 18:22

There used to be a Summer and Skye and a baby group I attended when dd was a baby. I didn’t like the name Summer…probably because I didn’t like the mother and she would screech it out every 10 mins. “Summer!! Stop that!” “SUMMER!!!! Enough you’re driving me crazy!”

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 30/07/2023 18:11

To me they are completely different. I love Posy but really don’t like Summer.
