Which do you prefer?

Tobias - will ne called Tobias at home but ok with others shortening once at school

Or

Rowan - would probably be shortened sometimes at home to Roo but Rowan mostly

Tobias so he can be called Toby.
Rowen to be shortened to Roo is embarrassing.

Toby or Rohan. I like straight forward and smart.

I really like Toby, but not Tobias... so I'd say Rowan

Daffodilwoman · 30/07/2023 12:35

Tobias is much nicer than Rowan. I know a Rowan who is not nice so my judgement is clouded.
I don’t like Toby though and you will get people calling him that, you can’t stop them.

KirstenBlest · 30/07/2023 10:53

Rowan but I don't like Roo, and Roman, Reuben etc popular and they seem a bit samey.
Tobias - prefer Toby, and is it Tub-eye-us, 'Toe bias' or Tob-ee-as

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/07/2023 02:21

Rowan( biased as I have an adult one)

PabloFlowerface · 30/07/2023 00:51

Rowen if I had to but they're both a bit wet

spiderlight · 30/07/2023 00:38

Rowan.

Loopzy · 30/07/2023 00:38

Rowan

SleepingStandingUp · 30/07/2023 00:29

Tobias

Milkand2sugarsplease · 30/07/2023 00:07

O prefer Rowan.

I only know one Rowan and he's lovely. I'm at numerous different baby groups week in week out and haven't come across any more, along with having a school aged DS too and haven't come across any Rowan's in his school or hobby circles either. Nor have I come across any in my teaching career. Definitely wouldn't put the name in the "naughty boy" box.

UndercoverCop · 29/07/2023 23:48

I like both, the Tobias I know goes by the NN Obi , because his little brother couldn't say Tobias or Toby properly. They're both in their thirties now but Obi stuck.
I also know an adult male Rowan lovely guy, very bright. Definitely wouldn't have been the naughty kid at school!

TrustPenguins · 29/07/2023 23:43

Ooh, both are good!

I'd say Tobias just edges it!

Horsedoglover59 · 29/07/2023 23:43

Rowan, not keen on Tobias or Toby, but like Roo as well.

RuthW · 29/07/2023 23:37

Tobias

continentallentil · 29/07/2023 23:17

Tobias - great name

I prefer Rowan for girls and it’s overused / especially combined with all the Romans and Robins

APurpleSquirrel · 29/07/2023 23:00

I have a Rowan (DS) & know a Tobias. As far as I know it doesn't get shortened to Toby, but possibly Tobs.
I obviously prefer Rowan to Tobias - & it's only been misheard to Roman once.

CheshireCats · 29/07/2023 22:50

Tobias

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 29/07/2023 22:48

Tobias. Lovely name. Rowan will be frequently misheard as the ubiquitous Roman.

Middlelifecoming · 29/07/2023 22:34

I never shorten my sons name from Tobias to Toby. I didn’t like Toby at all and he definitely doesn’t suit Toby. I’ve even corrected people when they’ve shortened it. He’s 9 now and no one calls him Toby

WanderingWitches · 29/07/2023 21:32

Tobias

PickledScrump · 29/07/2023 21:32

Love Tobias, hate Rowan. Prefer Tobin

FoodFann · 29/07/2023 20:56

Love Toby or Rowan. But dislike Roo and Tobias

Liv999 · 29/07/2023 20:51

Rowan by miles, Tobias will get shortened to Toby, really dislike Toby
