DP suggested it but I think it's awful! Look dreadful lol and would condemn our poor DD to a lifetime of having to say "it's same as Elsie but spelt.... ". Argh!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
murasaki · 25/07/2023 13:39

Dp has a cousin called Alivia. I try not to judge. I fail.

I write fantasy fiction and I wouldn't even use that. Too many pointless letters.

Exactly.

If OP's husband wants a silly spelling , at least make it work

''Lc''

{El Cee}

Crumpleton · 25/07/2023 13:38

Not one of your DH's best suggestions.

oakleaffy · 25/07/2023 13:36

Bloody ridiculous!

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 25/07/2023 13:36

FFS!
As a registrar if you came register with me, I would be saying "what? And how are you pronouncing it? And why are you spelling it that way?"
I mean, I can't refuse to do it, but seriously....why would you?!

I have a less common spelling of a fairly common name (nowadays, wasn't popular 40 years ago!) and it's annoying having to spell it.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 25/07/2023 13:34

Please no!!

Did DP drop something on his keyboard when he suggested that spelling?

More likely dropped something on his head…!

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 25/07/2023 13:33

Surely you can add a few more letters to that, maybe a silent p at the start?

Mind you, I've just learned that Musk is now spelling Twitter as X.

Aye but it's pronounced Elonz

loobylou10 · 25/07/2023 13:30

Don't be silly

booktokbear · 25/07/2023 13:29

😱

NewUserName2023 · 25/07/2023 13:29

Just no, unless you want to set your DD up for a life time of bullying and having to spell it out EVERY time someone asks her name 😢

To be fair, I think the OP writes fantasy fiction too, of the nominative type.

billycat321 · 25/07/2023 13:27

Silly

Random789 · 25/07/2023 13:27

Your DP is bonkers. It is literally theworst suggestion I have ever seen on a baby name thread. Grin

Might just as well have Elsie spelled as lqhdac7(*^%, or with the squiggle that Prince used for a name.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/07/2023 13:27

Child abuse. FGS please don’t inflict this on your poor child.

Wibbleswombats · 25/07/2023 13:25

My name is an ordinary name spelt slighly differently, it's a total PITA. I can remember as a very small child correcting people and that spelling is appalling, so not even easy to correct for a little kid.

Oceanus · 25/07/2023 13:24

UnfunnyJester · 25/07/2023 13:18

How about Loseendah Capreeece then it's LC for a nickname.

I feel like that's a fab name for a stripper.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 25/07/2023 13:24

It's such a shame your DH has perpetuated his genes. 😢

2bazookas · 25/07/2023 13:22

God, why would anybody condemn their child to an adult lifetime of having to spell out their name (several times) to every office, caller, business and bureaucracy they ever deal with. Tell every single new acquaintance how to pronounce it and/or how to spell it. Endless teasing at school and work.

just paint a target on her back, or put her in the stocks on th village green, poor kid.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/07/2023 13:22

CountTo10 · 25/07/2023 13:15

I always think 'alternative' spellings of names announce to the world their parents were illiterate. It's always not very bright people who do it. If you want your child to stand out in the world make sure they grow up to be a decent human being and not a ridiculous spelling of a name.

Either illiterate or desirous of telling the world 'I'm so crazeee normal rules and behaviour don't apply to meee'.

Mykittensmittens · 25/07/2023 13:22

Nah. My mum is a retired English Language lecturer - and is here helping with the kids today. I showed her the spelling over lunch and it doesn’t equate to Elsie. The E on the end forces the Y to be pronounced as ‘why’ (this is what an ending ‘E’ does to middle vowels.

therefore that offering would be pronounced as something like ‘Elle-sigh-ee’ but even that isn’t quite right!!

MrsMitford3 · 25/07/2023 13:22

I am hoping this is an end of term jolly jape and not an actual potential parent considering this!!!!!!!

In the case that it is actually a real scenario and the future father is reading this it is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen and will set the poor child up for a lifetime of teasing and resentment.
