DP suggested it but I think it's awful! Look dreadful lol and would condemn our poor DD to a lifetime of having to say "it's same as Elsie but spelt.... ". Argh!

because Sea isn't pronounced See in Spanish.
El Sí, would look suitably Spanish, but I think El is masculine

Daphnis156 · 29/07/2023 15:20

Why not spell it El Sea, and say it's a Spanish name?

Daisybuttercup12345 · 28/07/2023 00:26

What a stupid prat.
Ridiculous!!!

reelcat · 27/07/2023 21:49

Bloody awful!

Why the fuck can't people just spell things normally?

Because they think they are speshal!

I have a friend called Kchorrah.

Her names Cora. It drives her bananas.

midsomermurderess · 25/07/2023 18:58

She’d go through life with people thinking her parents are illiterate twits.

RedToothBrush · 25/07/2023 18:53

Ltb.

There is no alternative

Sealover123 · 25/07/2023 18:52

Nooooo!

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2023 18:50

Interesting that most people assume the op's partner to be male...

continentallentil · 25/07/2023 18:07

Lovely OP

I can’t believe people are falling for this..

mathanxiety · 25/07/2023 17:49

And I need glasses....

mathanxiety · 25/07/2023 17:48

Surely that's a cockeyed version of Elsie, not Elise?

Either way, nooooooooo.

BestBadger · 25/07/2023 17:47

tt9 · 25/07/2023 15:01

@BestBadger I am afraid you spelt ehllsyie wrong..

Blame Lewyish Carrelle

That must be a pissccetakye.

Honestly? I would think that you and/or your DP were stupid.

He needs to find an alternative name if he wants to be different. A completely made-up spelling of an established name is just….as above…stupid.

Consider the origins/meaning of the name too (I am surprised how many people don’t). Re-spelling could be culturally insensitive.

Eeye thingcc ewe arrrr possssibli rite

No, it's awful!

Archeron · 25/07/2023 16:57

Is this a piss take? God I hope so! 😂

BreatheAndFocus · 25/07/2023 16:56

What’s his name, OP? Suggest he changes it to….er….a more modern spelling:

Steeev
Dayuv
Mallcum
Peeturr
Hahree
Will-yum

And call your daughter Elsie, spelt properly 😊

GetYourHandsOffMyCake · 25/07/2023 16:50

It's absurd and pretentious

EarthlyNightshade · 25/07/2023 16:43

I think he's said this so you'll say no and then he can push his actual choice and you'll be "oh that's so much better".
I'm actually warming to LC in comparison.

Imagine taking such a man into your bed only for him to reveal such a disturbing side to his personality at a later date.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 25/07/2023 16:37

No, no, thrice times no. My surname is Irish, it’s a pain in the arse.
I automatically spell it out at appointments, phone calls etc. and even then I’m asked numerous times “ I’m sorry, could your repeat that please”?
It rhymes with a common English name but the initial letter if different. If I say “can you spell Mxxxxx?” They will say yes. So my name is just same and sounds the same except it begins with a D.
Don’t do it op. Elsie, just as it is is a lovely name.
