For a girl (obviously). Thoughts?

No it's too hard for me as in the word is hard, Olivia and Oliver I prefer if I had too

Pemba · 25/07/2023 04:47

'Drab and frumpy' as a pp puts it is spot on. I can't imagine why it seems to be fashionable atm.

Olivia is lovely though.

Copperoliverbear · 25/07/2023 02:08

Love it. X

Not keen. It's a murky green or a salty snack. Also makes me think of Olive Oil, Popeye's girlfriend.

I like a lot of nature names but not this one.

But if you love it, go for it. A stranger's taste doesn't matter at all.

This.

Olivia is much more elegant. Don't give her a frump name.

I didn't mean to quote anyone so don't know what happened there. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can't get past Oyl.

I'm old enough to remember Olive from On The Buses so it has always seemed an old fashioned, frumpy name.
Thinking of the colour didn't help because it's such a dull shade of green.

But this year, I have got to know a little girl called Olive. She's absolutely beautiful and is also kind and gentle so now I associate the name with her.

Associations change over time and through personal connections.

I can't get past Oyl.

Nice in a salad
Not for a person

Olwen?

RitzyMcFitzy · 24/07/2023 23:08

We all have different tastes but it's one of those names where I'm always a bit baffled when people describe it as beautiful. I find it drab and frumpy. Nothing positive to say about it.

toastofthetown · 24/07/2023 23:03

I’m very close to an Olive who absolutely hates her name. She finds it harsh sounding and frumpy.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 24/07/2023 22:45

Ugly name. Makes me think of grumpy old ladies and Popeye.
Yet I like Olivia.

Joolsin · 24/07/2023 22:33

Love it, so very much prettier than the ubiquitous Olivia/Eva/Ava, which are utterly boring. Also, it reminds me of the main character in my favourite movie, Little Miss Sunshine.

Easyontheeyes · 24/07/2023 22:20

Really bad

cocksstrideintheevening · 24/07/2023 22:16

Oil

dressedforcomfort · 24/07/2023 21:29

Lovely!

imbolic · 24/07/2023 21:28

I am old enough to have had elderly relatives called the names that are popular now, so they seem really fuddy-duddy to me, LOL. There was Cousin Olive (about 70 when I was born) and her sisters, Cousins Ethel, Maud and Cora - I had to address them as "Cousin" to be respectful.

Ywudu · 24/07/2023 21:23

Love it

Olika · 24/07/2023 21:23

Olivie perhaps?

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 24/07/2023 21:22

Love it

LobsterCrab · 24/07/2023 21:22

Love it.

SoSoSoSo · 24/07/2023 21:20

It's incredibly ugly.

WinniePig · 24/07/2023 21:19

I really like it!

Songlines · 24/07/2023 21:10

Love it ❤️

Babybabybabyy · 24/07/2023 21:09

How random.. this name popped up today on my Facebook. Don’t be put off by this 🙈 It was actually a post that someone had called their dog Olive but it stopped me in my tracks and I thought what a beautiful baby name. Olivia is also beautiful but very very popular so Olive has a bit of a different twist 😊

Jongleterre · 24/07/2023 21:08

No.
