For a girl (obviously). Thoughts?

Personally don't like it. But it's a relative's name who wasn't the nicest to me & that also put me off. Grumpy old lady vibe.

Luhou · 05/08/2023 16:12

Love. Was top of my list for a girl. (We're having a boy)

faban · 05/08/2023 10:39

Like the name olive not an actual olive 😂

faban · 05/08/2023 10:39

Olive was the top of my list for my DD but when she was born she didn't look like one! I love it

PuffyShirt · 04/08/2023 23:43

I think it’s a really ugly name.

Daphnis156 · 04/08/2023 23:40

Olivia is so much better.

Olive is drab, unattractive, middle aged.

We all have different tastes but it's one of those names where I'm always a bit baffled when people describe it as beautiful. I find it drab and frumpy. Nothing positive to say about it.

Agree with this. Olivia is better but I don't love it either.

AcrobaticCardigan · 31/07/2023 15:53

I love it.

LovelyGirlsCompetition · 31/07/2023 15:52

It’s cute and original, not ugly at all! Makes a refreshing change from the tedious over-used Olivia. Reminds me of Little Miss Sunshine and she was fabulous. Olive Oyl is probably a bit of a dated reference, I wouldn’t worry about that.

Crunchymum · 31/07/2023 15:48

Love it, would be on my list (and close to the top) if I was having a girl.

I also like Pearl, Rose and Jean too,

Shitegeist · 31/07/2023 12:23

I think Olivia became really popular, and then too popular, so trendy people started calling their children Olive instead (eg Sasha baron Cohen, I think).

I am a middle aged Olivia and have been called ‘olive’ as a piss take and then latterly affectionately. Olivia was very rare when I was a child.

not sure which I prefer tbh. Maybe Olivia and then use olive as a nickname?

meatbaseddessert · 31/07/2023 12:20

I know an Olive. Gorgeous shiny black hair and lovely personality. Really suits her. It's also so different from all the other names we hear on the beach. Molly, George, Fluffy, Spot etc.

Katiesaidthat · 31/07/2023 12:11

I always think of clumsy Mrs Oliver in the Agatha Christie novels, read too many of them in my younger days it seems...
Much prefer Olivia if needs must.

Anewuser · 31/07/2023 11:39

Doesn’t matter what a load of randoms think, if you like it, use it.

but since you’ve asked…. Awful, old fashioned name. I had an auntie Olive and she was a miserable old cow. Associate it with dogs now, had 2 Olives at our puppy training class alone.

Epicstorm · 31/07/2023 11:34

I don’t like it. It reminds me of Popeye’s girlfriend and Olive in On the Buses.
I know of two recent Olives though so I suspect it’s becoming more popular.

Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks if you like it. No one can chose a name everyone likes.

Anothermam · 31/07/2023 11:28

I think it's really cute as a middle name on a little girl I know, Elsie Olive

LittleButtercup · 31/07/2023 10:08

I love the name Olive, much prefer it to Olivia which is so popular.

Don't agree with it being a frumpy name at all, it is a beautiful, strong name!

35andThriving · 27/07/2023 21:07

I like it.

Olive in Easy A is a nice character which I think make me like it more. An anagram of "I love".

CalmDownBoris72 · 26/07/2023 20:35

Really love it.

Wallawallakoala · 26/07/2023 01:29

Really love it!!

peaceinourtime · 26/07/2023 01:28

Olive is really nice. I like it a lot. Its a lot more refreshing then Olivia of which there are tons.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/07/2023 09:47

On the Buses. That’s my age, though 😁

KirstenBlest · 25/07/2023 09:46

Olivia is much nicer but agree that Olivia, Ava, Eva etc have been overused.
Olive seems drab, and makes me think of an oily fruit or Olive from On the Buses.

TealSapphire · 25/07/2023 08:27

Absolutely love it.

Second only to Pearl.

gjg · 25/07/2023 08:05

I love it !
