Is Frances Leonora too posh?

I think we would almost always call her Frankie, rather than Frances. I wouldn’t want Frankie on her BC because I have a thing about shortened names not being their given names… mostly because they often end with the same syllable as our last name (ee) and it sounds clunky when you say it all together.

But…does Frances Leonora give off privileged vibes that we don’t have? We’re a very average family. I might be overthinking it but I don’t want her to be judged inappropriately, or have people judge us because of a “wannabe” name choice.

I just think it’s very pretty. We already have a daughter and two nieces with L names so Leonora as a first name is a no go. Also my name begins with L!

Thanks! Be harsh if you need , I just want honest opinions

I think it's lovely, prefer Francie as a nickname though 😊

It sounds fine. Frankie is more a nickname for Francesca though.

It isn’t. Francesca and Frances are versions of the same name.

TrueScrumptious · 23/07/2023 18:02

I like it and don’t think it too posh. I have a Frances-she’s now in her early 20s. I don’t like Frankie, though. DD gets annoyed at people mistaking her name for Francis, just to warn you.

Let's hope Meghan doesn't steal the name then

Frances was in the bookies' top 10 when Charlotte was born.

I have a Frances - can you tell?😁

Princess Dianas middle name was Frances, and her goddaughter was Leonora. I agree with a pp about it being vintage unfrilly.

I don't think it's at all posh.

Does Frankie Surname sound ok?

Frances is good
Frankie -not so good, it's got Eastender vibes to me.

This. Frankie is this decades Mercedes

RitzyMcFitzy · 23/07/2023 17:40

Doesn't sound overly posh to me.

Frances is in the 'unfrilly vintage' category, but it was never a name that was a preserve of the upper classes. Leonora reminds me of an old Caribbean lady. Not entirely sure why.

continentallentil · 23/07/2023 17:29

TWO

continentallentil · 23/07/2023 17:29

No it’s lovely and not over posh at all - people give their kids a much wider variety of names these days - Beatrice and Isabella being too totally mainstream examples that would once have been considered quite fancy

TheModHatter · 23/07/2023 17:23

Lovely.

I like Frankie too.

Daphnis156 · 23/07/2023 17:15

The middle name isn't used much, and the first name is not posh!

Hbh17 · 23/07/2023 17:02

I don't know what "too posh" even means! They are beautiful, elegant names that won't date because they are classic. If you like them, OP, then surely there is no issue?

Scirocco · 23/07/2023 16:53

I love it. Frances Leonora sounds like the heroine of a Victorian novel.

SophieHope7 · 23/07/2023 16:51

If you love it. Who cares? Go for it! My DD has two middle names (couldn't choose) and someone labelled us posh.... People are people 😂

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 23/07/2023 16:50

i love The name Frances. I’m not into middle names, Leonora is fine, I don’t get posh from either but I do think it’s a lovely name for a person to have.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/07/2023 16:49

I don’t think Frances is remotely posh or middle class. More like buxom, farmer’s wife.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/07/2023 16:47

I like Leonora. Frankie is a bit chavvy, as people will assume she’s a Francesca. And Frances just reminds me of an old lady, it’s not a ‘pretty’ girls name as such.

RedDoughnut · 23/07/2023 16:46

StrictlyCandelabra · 23/07/2023 16:44

Lovely name. I really like it.

ASuitableName · 23/07/2023 16:44

Two lovely names!

LilyLemonade · 23/07/2023 16:44

Frankie doesn't sound posh - Frances Leonora does but it's a lovely, elegant name.
