I've always thought of it as very posh but now it's so popular has it become a bit...well... common? As in opposite of posh

No just Uber popular - like Sarah or Emma in the 70s/80s

KayEmAy · 24/07/2023 20:44

One of the most common - I'm in the US and I feel like all baby girls are either Ava, Amelia or Olivia

Hollyppp · 24/07/2023 13:55

Fairly popular, lovely name

@Tourmalines , I didn't agree with @PurpleChrayne 's post, but I don't like people's comments being described as 'stupid' or 'ridiculous'.

Welcome to the real world .

StopFeckingFaffing · 23/07/2023 20:56

It is very popular but I wouldn't consider it to be "common"

Majority of Olivias I know are from fairly middle class, respectable families

SemperIdem · 23/07/2023 20:49

It’s painfully overused at this point. In much the same way Sarah has been in the past. Nice name rendered boring by sheer exposure.

Aurelia has a similar vibe but is more unusual.

pambeeslyhalpert2 · 23/07/2023 20:45

I don't know any young ones at all and I have a 20 month old

My DS is 7MO and at baby groups etc. I've met 6 Olivia's under 1 so far.

I love the name. I also love the name Olive.

Tourmalines · 23/07/2023 11:54

@MerryChristmasToYou and my opinion still stands. Stupid comment .

MerryChristmasToYou · 23/07/2023 10:33

@Tourmalines , it's a comment, and an opinion. Olives are oily, and the pp is allowed too say it's ugly, so it's not stupid.

Tourmalines · 23/07/2023 10:28

PurpleChrayne · 22/07/2023 15:52

So common. Its popularity astounds me. It's such an ugly, greasy name.

stupid comment

MerryChristmasToYou · 23/07/2023 08:22

@biscoffy ,it's not ugly or greasy. If it was, it wouldn't be so incredibly popular.
Greasy, ffs.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 22/07/2023 23:04

I used to think I would use it if I had a girl but the popularity does put me off. I was at a park the other day and there were so many. Like others have said it’s been number 1 for such a long time.

decaffonlypls · 22/07/2023 23:02

It's beautiful and elegant. I knew several in early 2000's but not so much now

As an adult Olivia, I've never had any comments to say my name is ugly or greasy? What on earth does that even mean!?

modgepodge · 22/07/2023 19:28

There was a phase where there was at least one if not two Olivias in every class I taught - both in a posh school and a fairly rough one. I’d say it’s very common (as in popular) in teenagers/top primary school now, as is Isabelle/Isabella. Maybe it’s becoming less popular as we don’t have any lower down the school and I only know one my daughters age (4).

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/07/2023 18:51

Not common as in the opposite of posh, but any sort of class. A bit like Sarah or Susan in older age groups - overused.

2chocolateoranges · 22/07/2023 16:13

I work in early years and have 2 Olivia’s in our nursery

username098765 · 22/07/2023 16:12

I have an Olivia but there is only 1 or 2 others in her school - secondary school. At the time it was the only name her Dad and I could agree on! Took 10 days to name her. She doesn't like it and prefers Liv or Olive.

CountryStore · 22/07/2023 16:11

It's a lovely name

Not greasy at all 😃

DustyLee123 · 22/07/2023 15:55

I work in schools, and I wouldn’t say it’s common now.

IhearyouClemFandango · 22/07/2023 15:54

It's never been posh, just a normal, very popular name. I really don't like it, or Oliver.

YukoandHiro · 22/07/2023 15:52

Very! That should say...

YukoandHiro · 22/07/2023 15:52
