I had a dream that my best friend named her baby Zelda and I was SUPER jealous because it suddenly occurred to me that it was the coolest name ever. I loved it so much in the dream that I’m wondering if it might actually be the coolest name ever 😂 thoughts?

To be fair it was a horrible book. Euww.

Zelda reminds me of that American girl in Mallory Towers. Oh, wait, think that might have been Zerelda?

Yes Zerelda Brass, she was awful! 😂

Newtogym · 29/07/2023 00:12

It's my name! I love it, and people always remember it. Do get a lot of references to the game mainly from younger people.

Reminds me of the nasty sister in the Stephen King book - was it Gerald's Game? Horrible name.

I love it. Unusual without being weird.

SoundTheSirens · 28/07/2023 17:50

For some reason the odd fact that’s lodged in my brain about Zelda (when more important bits of knowledge have long fled) and so is the first thing I think of when I hear it is that it was Maureen Lipman’s mother’s name. Don’t ask me why I remember that!

Daisybuttercup12345 · 28/07/2023 17:46

Awful name.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 20/07/2023 15:09

I like it and it doesn't have associations for me (too old for all the references).

I also love Zuleika but DH vetoed it getting onto our list. I had brief, possibly hormone-fuelled, images of a cute little Zuley.

JamSandle · 20/07/2023 15:03

A big like from me.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 20/07/2023 15:00

I like it and don’t see Nintendo and witches as negative associations

TheCyclingGorilla · 20/07/2023 14:48

My daughter plays the Zelda games. It seems to me Link does all the grunt work while Zelda just stands around dishing out magical knowledge and looking pretty.

I like the name but it's been ruined by popular culture.

VeridicalVagabond · 20/07/2023 14:48

I also think of the game first then Zelda the witch. But Zelda was awesome so I'm not sure why that'd be a negative connotation as pp seem to be suggesting.

I like it.

It is a bit of a cat name though. My friend has three cats, Hilda, Zelda and Salem 😁

Star0Fire · 20/07/2023 14:46

Aunt Zelda from Sabrina vibes, also Legend of Zelda video game. Neither are bad characters though so I wouldn't say it's a negative association

WaltzingWaters · 20/07/2023 14:43

Not a fan. Like others have said, I just think witch.

Moveoverdarlin · 20/07/2023 14:40

Tabitha to me is posh, horsey, jolly hockey sticks - not witchy. Zelda is very witchy. Isn’t there a character called Aunt Zelda from something?

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 20/07/2023 14:38

It's my Dd's cat's name, from the game.

LosingTheBelly · 20/07/2023 14:36

So funny how you associate names with people. I knew a Zelda (she was the aunt of a friend) growing up and she was a complete glass half empty person. (my friend described her not as a glass half empty person- but a 'the glass has been stolen' person).

So I associate the name with a discontented, pursed lipped dissatisfied moaning person who had nothing good to say about anything or anyone.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 20/07/2023 14:27

I love it. It'd be in my top 10 girls names.

VeryQuaintIrene · 20/07/2023 13:41

Zelda Fitzgerald had such an unhappy life and died in a fire in a mental institution in the town where I live so not good associations for me.

I like it, and it's a lot better than the current trend for insipid vowelly or L- names

I agree! And great choice @ZeldasMum ! It’s a really cool name. Seems strong but feminine at the same time.

I also had only associated the name with F Scott Fitzgerald! I don’t know the ‘Terrahawks’ reference and remember the video game now it’s been mentioned but I’ve had a quick Google and she seems pretty cool 😁 As for the witch - I don’t think I ever watched Sabrina but I do love witchy names - my daughter is Tabitha which is a bit witchy because of Bewitched, and I also love Winnie which I also think has a satisfyingly spooky vibe. Maybe witchy names are my cup of tea.

My DD is called Zelda! Suits her to a T.

I am not a big fan of the video games, but Zelda the video game character is pretty cool so that hasn't stopped me from using the name.

ConnieSaks · 20/07/2023 09:21

Zelda reminds me of F Scott Fitzgerald (particularly Tender is the Night)

piglet81 · 20/07/2023 07:21

I really like it!

avaviolet · 20/07/2023 07:20

I like it but I'm a Nintendo fan 😂 Couldn't disassociate it from the video game.
