I didn't say it was a name, @Ohyousillydivvy , although i think it can be a surname.

Bibi could be short for Habibi, which is 'My love'/'my darling' in Arabic. Not sure it's an arabic name.

Habibi is a saying rather than a name and anyway would an Arabic name fit with the Op's cultural heritage.

I know a Bibi, it means love in Arabic which is beautiful and is also popular in certain cultures. I really like Thea, also I like Phoebe (if you’re going for Goddess themed names) I like Juniper, which could be shortened to Juno. I know a Maia (for a different spelling) but it’s not really my taste. Marnie is nice, so is Nori (shortened from Eleanor). You have to think of the name with the surname and just imagine them older and going for an interview and just introducing themselves throughout their lives. I’m also not a fan of Coco, I nearly called my dog that a few years back but saying no coco sounded so silly!

Bertietomo · 20/07/2023 20:55

Thea is really nice, not sure I would like the others as a name as an adult x

FayCarew · 19/07/2023 19:06

@Inkypot , I was thinking something like CC's daughter was probably likely to be blessed with good looks and a privileged background, wheras a CocoCarew might be a rather plain from a deprived area. Cherry's from a privileged background and is easy on the eye.

Yonderway · 19/07/2023 18:50

Juno, Marnie or Alma are by far my favourites. Sorry I'm not keen on the farm others

2bazookas · 19/07/2023 18:49

Bibi coco bonnie may be very cutesy on a baby, but she won't always be a baby.

Give her a name that's going to last an adult lifetime.

FayCarew · 19/07/2023 18:44

or Judy/Judi, which is quite nice

Inkypot · 19/07/2023 18:43

FayCarew · 19/07/2023 18:30

@Mostlyoblivious , Jude is not "a boys name"! It is a boy's name.
@Inkypot , Courtney Cox and Cherry Healey both have daughters named Coco.
I don't think that the names of celebrities' offspring always works for ordinary people's DC.

A fair point. And you've just made me remember Courtney Cox's daughter was named Coco from the first two letters of Courtney's first and last names!
I do love the name though, don't even know what it is about it but I really love it.

Maireas · 19/07/2023 18:35

If you like the name Jude, call her Judith. Then use that as a nickname.

Taste is very subjective.
However, you have to remember you're not naming a baby. You're naming a person. I've known a Bonnie who loathed her name because she was large and a bit clumsy and gender non conforming. We called her by her surname.

Inkypot · 19/07/2023 17:29

Themaghag · 19/07/2023 16:53

@Inkypot I bet 'Rolly' was really Roland!

No, that's what we all thought too but it was just his name. Not short for anything.

Maireas · 19/07/2023 17:14

Soothingaftersun · 19/07/2023 12:34

Another vote for Coco , so cute

For a baby.
For an adult?

Themaghag · 19/07/2023 16:53

FayCarew · 19/07/2023 16:37

I didn't make up those names

Some names indicate the age and socio-economic background of the parents.
Nobody on MN would even dream of suspecting that Du'wayne or Halleigh-Boux could not become a neurosurgeon or HCJ , other than in Baby Names

FayCarew · 19/07/2023 16:28

@Inkypot , because the MN versions of High Court Judges have names like Charles, Sebastian or Olivia, whereas real HCJ's have names like Bobbie, Kelyn and Barry.

watermeloncougar · 19/07/2023 16:23

Of course it doesn't mean someone is going to be less skilled at a particular job because of their name!

But it's disingenuous to pretend that people don't make judgements about names; there's a lot of evidence to back up that they do. We may not like that fact, but we can't ignore it.

Personally I don't like naming children with a diminutive or a nickname. Those can happen organically, but it's nice for a child to have the option of using a full name.

Of course ultimately it's the OP and her partner's choice what to name their daughter but she's asked for opinions and people have given them. Coco isn't a proper name with a history and a lovely meaning... it was Chanel's cabaret name, not what she was given at birth. It's now become very popular as a pet's name, and tbh to many of us just sounds a bit silly. Same with Bibi.

Inkypot · 19/07/2023 16:15

Themaghag · 19/07/2023 15:28

I'd always prefer to give the child a proper name that you could then be shortened to a nickname, so that the child has the opportunity to reinstate the proper name if and when they so desire. I can't imagine a high court judge or a leading neurosurgeon being called Bibi or Coco for example!

So:

Thea - Theodora
Coco - Corinne, Colette, Cordelia, and Chloe
Bonnie - Bonita
Bibi - Birgit, Bianca and Bridget.
Alma - Just no!
Jude - Judith Judy, Juliet
Maya - Maria
Juno - Juliana, Julianne, Julienne, Josephine, Jovanna/Giovanna, and Juanita Janette, Jordana,
Marnie - Marina

My personal favourites are Thea, Maya and Marnie, probably because they are the names that sound most credible when used on their own.

Why do people always do this? "Can't imagine a neurosurgeon named...."
Why not? If they choose to follow a career in neurosurgery they will be able to do so regardless of name. It's so judgemental to suggest they'd be less able or successful in certain job roles due to their name.
It's the same when people bang on about "can't see them as a high court judge" etc. How many of your kids actually want those roles anyway? Why would their name make any difference whatsoever?
Unless the name is somehow offensive then no it won't matter. I say this as someone who worked with a neurosurgeon named Rolly for years (not a nickname). If that was acceptable then so are other cutesy names.

Stripper name

🙈
Yes, apologies if anyone has a coco but it seems like a really "rough" name to me

Koalasparkles · 19/07/2023 16:00

I personally don't like many of those, but Thea and Bonnie are my favourites of the list. Bonnie over Thea

I have a Thea and a Marnie so I’m biased and those would be my top choices haha! We have similar taste though as I also love Juno, Bonnie and Coco.

TenoringBehind · 19/07/2023 13:33
