Frank is my favourite. I love James but not keen on Jimmy, like Fred but prefer Frederick to Alfred. I’ve thought about why I don’t like Alfred and realised I associate it with the Guess Who face called Alfred who had long yellow hair and a beard - we played a lot of Guess Who as children Grin

I like Frankie and James the most.

Not keen on Jimmy / Jim or Alfred (meh) / Alfie (overused).

prefer Francis as the girls version. On a boy it sounds a bit…soppy?!

I especially love James, my brother is James, nickname Jim.

My partner and son have James as a middle name

My friends toddler is James

I wanted James as a first name for my son, but I have two brothers and didn't think it fair to include the name of one without the other (even though I'm not honouring my brother with the name, just really like it)

James is gorgeous - a timeless classic. Jimmy is not (if single syllable James needs a nickname these days then I think cool, medieval Jem or at least friendly sounding Jamie are far nicer sounding).

Alfred is lovely. Slightly trendy again now, but has some great namesakes (no pun intended 😁).

Frank is blah (and feels very trendy to boot). Francis is not blah, but is a bit marmite imo - for some like me it's a reminder of elegant French Kings, for others it's quite girly thanks to the "cis" sound and similar sounding female name.

Francis is great. Frank is good. Frankie is too common, in both senses of the word.
Ditto Alfred / Alf / Alfie.
James is ok, but a bit boring.

James is handsome and like Jim and Jamo but not Jimmy.
Alfred is okay in an Albert kind of way - very popular.
Frank is very popular. Francis is lovely and I like Saint Francis.
Do you like Francois, Francisco, Cisco, Friso and Franklin.
I love the beautiful Franklin River.

Alfred - there are vast swathes of Alfies and Freddies and personally I think the combo of Alfred is ugly (sorry!)

James is fine but uninspiring, Jimmy really grates on me.
