Florence, Margot or Eva?

Our second baby girl was born a few days and we’re really struggling to settle on a name. It did take us a week to name our first daughter but we seemed more definite in our choices.

Our surname starts with M and our eldest’s initials are MM - I’m not sure if 2 children with MM initials is a bit much?

We love the following but can’t decide, any thoughts?

Eva
Margot
Florence
Maisie
Grace
Rose

The first 3 are faves but I keep changing my mind!

Eva ❤️

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 06/12/2023 23:34

Florence is my favourite and I also quite like Maisie and Grace.

ArtyStripySocks · 24/11/2023 10:23

Eva don't love, but have negative personal associations
Margot love LOVE!!!!!
Florence beautiful
Maisie sweet, but can you imagine Maisie in a boardroom? Stupid thought, but I like names which can be shortened to sweet but also be serious if needed.
Grace lovely. V popular where I live
Rose lovely.

Vittoriosa · 24/11/2023 10:20

Eva or Florence are pretty

Margot would be a no for me

CowboyJoanna · 22/11/2023 22:10

Eva! Though I am biased, I have an Eve Grin
Margot is too old fashioned, and Florence is a bit twee

ThisHouseWillBeTheDeathOfMe · 22/11/2023 21:55

Evangeline. Eva for short.

ThatWhiteElephant · 22/11/2023 21:54

Florence!

purplecheesecat · 22/11/2023 21:23

They’re all very nice names, but in your case I’d go for Florence or Eva to avoid having two children with MM initials

Dragonbed · 22/11/2023 21:22

I like them all (unhelpful!)
order of preference probably
Eva
Florence
Margot

dressedforcomfort · 22/11/2023 21:07

Florence or Margot

I think Eva has a really ugly sound.

OneCup · 22/11/2023 20:02

Florence> Eva> Margot.

NotFastButFurious · 22/11/2023 18:48

Florence

SiennaMillar · 22/11/2023 18:38

Florence, but it is overused. I really dislike Margot, I think it’s a fad.

FMLife · 22/11/2023 18:34

Eva - no. Evie, Ava, Ivy type names too popular
Margot - Maggot. Margaret is so much nicer
Florence - ok, prefer Flora
Maisie - ok but a bit twee
Grace - ok, dull as a middle name
Rose - ok, prefer Rosie, dull as a middle name

Agree on every point.

Doublebiscuit77 · 22/11/2023 15:53

I actually think Rose as a first name isn't used that much - I've only met one baby Rose. Looking at the darker green website, it's the least common of your choices. Florence is the most common. Eva has peaked and is on the way down. Maisie peaked a while ago but is rising again slightly.

My favourites are Rose and Eva.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 22/11/2023 15:24

I think all the names are nice enough but I wouldn’t go for another MM name. Eva is my favourite from the list (though I prefer Eve).

watermeloncougar · 17/07/2023 09:14

Florence is beautiful (provided it doesn't become Flo or Florry!)

KirstenBlest · 17/07/2023 09:08

Margaux is worse that Margot. It's ugly.
Margo is fine but not much used.

Threesmycrowd · 17/07/2023 05:35

marshmallowfinder · 16/07/2023 15:53

It looks like it, written down. It's ugly for that reason. Not idiotic in any way.

Totally disagree, have only ever seen this on mumsnet.
However you could always spell it margaux to get around the haters.
For what it's worth I like Florence best anyway! Lovely name which my dh vetoed 🙄

peaceinourtime · 17/07/2023 05:30

Florence is nice, or Margot go with the spelling Margo and Eva reminds me of Eva Braun unfortunately. Margaret is also nice with lots of shortings. For any Rose names Rosa is the better and not that common.

continentallentil · 16/07/2023 22:20

Margot - it’s v popular but not insanely overused like Eva

I don’t like Florence - although how about Flora?

shoopshoopdedoo · 16/07/2023 20:53

Congratulations! I love Florence, Rose and Eva.

salamithumbs · 16/07/2023 20:52

I like Rose and Grace best from the list- I agree with a pp that they're overused as middle names, but I don't think they're overused as first names! Not a fan of Margot at all but Eva, Maisie and Florence are nice imo.
I don't think that two siblings with MM initials would be much of a problem either.. my post tends to have my full name on the envelope rather than just my initials, and anyway post seems to be getting replaced with emails more and more. So I'd go with whichever name you like best!

pambeeslyhalpert2 · 16/07/2023 20:46

Florence is my fave. Esp with the nn Florrie. Congratulations!x

847arc · 16/07/2023 20:42
