What do people think of the name Ebeneezer, please.

Do you know what if it weren’t for the associations with Scrooge and the song it wouldn’t actually be a bad name, love the nn Ben.

Dogsitterwoes · 13/07/2023 16:07

I think it's a fab name in itself, looks good, fun to say.

But, no, because of Scrooge and Goode.

I'm not sure you can say anything.

I think it'd grow on people after the initial reaction.

ThatFraggle · 13/07/2023 15:58

Send them a link to this thread.

Whichwhatnow · 13/07/2023 15:54

Oh dear. I actually quite like the sound of it as a word/name, but considering my only associations are with Scrooge and the Shamen song about taking ecstasy (and those WILL be the main/only associations for most others too) I really really wouldn't...

loislovesstewie · 13/07/2023 15:36

A] you must be joking! You are, aren't you?
B] has the heat got to you?
C] has the heat got to everyone as I'm hearing lots of truly appalling suggestions for names today?

MonumentalLentil · 13/07/2023 15:36

Ask them why the Dickens they would call a child Ebenezer...

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 13/07/2023 15:25

I think I'd rather be a Uriah than an Ebenezer. But then again, lots of people would probably think it was pronounced urea...and that would, ahem, piss me off.

We found out my friend 'Ben' was 'Ebenezer' at his wedding! Knew him nearly 15yrs.

Omg 😲 was there any tittering in the church? 🤣🤣
One of my great fathers was called Ebenezer, but back in the 1800s there was probably a few more of them 😀😀

Pallisers · 13/07/2023 15:21

Looking at names from novels, Uriah is definitely worse. As is Obadiah.

Bananaman123 · 13/07/2023 15:19

nope, e’s are good e’s are good

cloudsintheceiling · 13/07/2023 15:15

E's are good

mathanxiety · 13/07/2023 15:13

Tell them about the book. It's possible they've never heard of it. Suggest Ezra as an alternative.

Also, it's spelled Ebenezer. Just three Es, not four.

Fwiw, it's not as bad as Uriah, imo.

pippapipps · 13/07/2023 15:05

Are you joking 🙃 don't do it op it's awful imagine the poor child at school

it's not her child

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 13/07/2023 15:09

I was on a course with an adult Ebeneezer and poor man sounded very embarrassed about it.

I honestly think they should stop you registering names till the baby is 6 months.

Years ago it would've given the school nursing team a good laugh but their probably used to it by now & you can't help feeling bad for the kids going through life with distinctive names.

pippapipps · 13/07/2023 15:05

Jins · 13/07/2023 15:03

That spelling is definitely Ebeneezer Goode.
The biblical spelling of Ebenezer is marginally better as spell check doesn’t underline it.
Ben is a good nickname which is lucky as they’ll need one

CherryRipe1 · 13/07/2023 14:59

VernonScrips · 13/07/2023 13:56

It’s Goode.

Lol!

HappiDaze · 13/07/2023 14:59

Sure sounds great go for it

E's are good they're Ebeneezer Goode

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2023 14:58

Naughty naughty very naughty.

DuchessOfSausage · 13/07/2023 14:52

Ebenezer. Es are good but you used one too many.

I think it's a nice name.

bonoslefteyebrow · 13/07/2023 14:38

No but I was considering Eben for my son.

Went with Oran in the end.

PurpleChrayne · 13/07/2023 14:37

It's fine! The only reason people don't like it is because of Scrooge.

CreationNat1on · 13/07/2023 14:24

Love it. Eben

Ontopofthesunset · 13/07/2023 14:23

I think Ebenezer is the usual spelling. It looks better as it doesn't look so sneezy as the double e.

augustusglupe · 13/07/2023 14:22

Ebeneezer Goode is all I think of.
