It’s nothing like a Maureen or Deirdre!

mintich · 13/07/2023 06:27

Said with a Roz. I know a lovely women with this name. It was also on my baby list!

Roselilly36 · 13/07/2023 06:24

The lovely Rosalind, I had the pleasure to know, always called herself Ros. Lovely name, and holds wonderful memories for me.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 13/07/2023 06:19

Im always surprised by how many people like this name on Mumsnet. To me it’s a bit clunky and ugly - the ‘roz’ sound isn’t nice IMO and the ‘lind’ isn’t great either! It has a frumpy, dated feed to me. Not hideous, but like a ‘Maureen’ or a ‘Deirdre’ kind of name.

Kafkaland · 13/07/2023 05:41

It's a classic, beautiful and elegant name with a lovely meaning and associations.

Beenhereforever1978 · 12/07/2023 22:04

Lovely lovely name.

70sTomboy · 12/07/2023 21:58

I know a Rosalind and a Rosemary, both early 60s. Both lovely women, intelligent, articulate, kind, and all-around well liked. The names conjure up an image for me.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/07/2023 21:35

Roz.
Prefer Rosemary.

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2023 21:32

She’s an awesome character to be named after. Lots of shortening possibilities. Strong choice.

Bananalanacake · 10/07/2023 18:10

My DM has this name, As you like it.

PurpleChrayne · 10/07/2023 16:27

Rozzer-lind.

I've always thought this name ends too abruptly. And "Roz" puts me in mind of a social justicey middle-class woman who wears those awful dungarees in a mustard yellow and had a gender neutral toddler called Rowan.

user1492757084 · 10/07/2023 11:51

Rosalind is Roz
Rosemary is Rose

HahahaBoomBoom · 09/07/2023 23:20

I like it, but for my Taskmaster fellows

‘Rosalind’s a f nightmare’

will be forever etched into our brains 😂 but that’s not what most people will think. It’s nice. I like it.

TinyKittenPaw · 09/07/2023 19:04

I would pronounce as roz - its an absolutely beautiful nome.

powershowerforanhour · 09/07/2023 18:55

Gorgeous name. I know two, both known as Roz. (Both really lovely people so I suppose I'm biased towards the name, but I always liked it anyway).

PickledScrump · 09/07/2023 18:51

I would say Roz-a-Lind, it’s a bit harsh sound sounding and clunky to me. Prefer the softer sounding Rosalie (rose-a-lee)

Rabbitsandgerbils · 08/07/2023 23:30

Shortened the Rosalind I know is Roz.

Beautiful name. Go for it!

fuckmyuteruslining · 08/07/2023 23:27

I know one. She is usually Rozzi - Roz-ee

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 08/07/2023 23:25

Gorgeous, uncommon, elegant - and with Shakespeare heroine and Scientific icon namesakes to boot.

It was on my own list until I realised she'd be very likely to get called "Roz", as the ones I've met are known. I always think it's a shame to have such a harsh sounding diminutive for such a pretty name - "Rose" would be nicer but since "Roz -a lind" is pretty much always pronounced like that, I think it's more of a push.

RosaSkye · 08/07/2023 13:42

definitely Roz/Alind

it’s beautiful but Rosanna or just Rosa pips it for me personally

MotherOfCatBoy · 08/07/2023 10:42

Gorgeous name. Have a weakness for all “rose” names.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 08/07/2023 10:38

I know a Rosalind. Pronounced Roz-uh-lind. She is known as Rose.

But I think most Rosalinds use Roz as the usual shortened version, not Rose.

RoseAndRose · 08/07/2023 10:34

Notellinganyone · 08/07/2023 10:26

Beautiful name and not too popular, As others have said it’s Roz- uh- lind. The OP who says it’s an s sound rather than a Z is wrong! Rosamund is also lovely. You are going to end up with a shortened version in reality so worth thinking about that.

It can come out as a kind of "Ross-alind" (especially if you are cross with a small one)

But it's always that short "o" sound, never the longer sound in "rose"

KirstenBlest · 08/07/2023 10:32

Rhoslyn is more of a house name - it means 'moor + lake', not 'beautiful + rose'

RoseAndRose · 08/07/2023 10:32

It's said Roz

And Rosalie is often said as Roz as well.

But Rosalind never starts Rose, though Rose/Rosie are sometimes used as nns

Two possible roots for the name - the flower or the old German Hros (which is more likely to be the original, with the flower being later association)
