I think it's a lovely name but as many people have pointed out she will be called 'Ellie' and you can't move for Ellies these days.

god people often assume Jane is Jayne. lord know why as it must be the less common spelling, or more common if you are being snobby!

i was my full name at school, but always diminutive at home. i am also dimin. as an adult, mainly because i associate the full version with school.

I don't think children always end up as their diminutives. My son hasn't (no one hsa even tried yet) and I know a few teenagers like that too. Unless the kids themselves like the diminutives.

Ellie just seems to suit her at the moment, msappropriate although I think she'll grow into Eloise. Funnily me & my sisters have always been called the shortened versions of our names and both my kids are usually shortened. I do sometimes wonder why I gave her such a pretty name only to promptly shorten it, though.

I agree that it sounds like an M is mising.

And I am not sure I would like it any better if the M were there.
