Currently my favourite out of my shortlist. Welsh name, though she'll be mostly English, living in England. Pronounced Low-ree (as in opposite of high). Thoughts?

Never heard of this before but it's beautiful. I too would have instinctively pronounced it like Lowry (rhymes with cow ry) but now I know I think the pronunciation you would use it lovely.

For what it's worth my little girl has an unusual Irish name and people often pronounce it wrong first time or aren't sure. After being told once, it's all good and no issue going forward so I wouldn't let this be something that discourages you

I'm also considering that name, I'm English and my other half is Welsh but we will be living in England for the next few years.

@Ontopofthesunset , I say like in Owen, because the sound is shorter than in Low.

The same sort of thing applies to 'ei' in names like Eira/Meirion etc the Ei is shorter than the Ay sound.

@Ontopofthesunset , the 'Low' part doesn't rhyme with Law or Bough.
If it rhymed with Bough, the name would be Lawri. You don't really get the 'ough' and 'aw' sounds in Welsh.

Someone upthread said that 'law' rhymed with 'bough'. Not that this name did. And I was confused, because 'law' and 'bough' have completely different sounds to me. 'Bough' rhymes with 'cow'. 'Law' rhymes with 'raw' and 'pore' and 'poor'.

None of these. 'Low' as in 'not high'

Lovely name - here in Scotland I know a few people with the surname Lowrie pronounced to rhyme with dowry, so I'd probably get it wrong first time. Nice to learn the proper Welsh pronunciation

I always read this in my head as law (rhyming with bough) ree. I like it both ways to be honest!

I think it's a lovely name. I instinctively said Low - ree when I knew it was a Welsh first name. I think of the artist as a totally different name.
