Girl for sure. I'm Irish

merderforlife · 08/07/2023 19:26

I like it for a girl, I'm from the North East

CaptainCallisto · 08/07/2023 17:08

I'm a primary school TA and we currently have three boys (though one is spelt Harlie) and one girl. Up until the girl started, I'd only ever heard it as a boy's name, but as pp said, Harley Quinn seems to have opened it up more to being unisex here (N. Yorks).

Either but I would assume boy.

AncientQuercus · 08/07/2023 09:13

Boy - SW

MolkosTeenageAngst · 08/07/2023 08:44

Unisex, it doesn’t really make me think of a specific gender although it probably would make me think of a specific class/ type of parent but would probably sound snobby and judgemental if I elaborated there.

I know a dog called Harley. It’s a he.

Marcipex · 08/07/2023 00:39

HAYLEY
I thought Harleys name was Hayley.

Marcipex · 08/07/2023 00:38

Girl, teenage, SW England

At first I thought she was called Harley tbh

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 07/07/2023 22:07

Boy but probably because I know a boy called it.

Feduperika · 07/07/2023 22:01

The girl I know was named Harley after the motorbikes, her dad had one.

Gateappreciation · 07/07/2023 16:42

Boy, south East.

KayEmAy · 07/07/2023 16:38

I see it as a neutral name - though I prefer it for and know more girls with it :)

WorkingClassHero3 · 07/07/2023 15:21

Looking at the rest of the thread it seems that lots of people can't separate the name and the bike. I can't. Bikers would only laugh kindly anyway, and probably with a good pinch of respect. So, changed my mind, you call your child Harley if you want to. Unless your surname is Davidson of course.

unsurereallyx1 · 07/07/2023 13:29

WorkingClassHero3 · 06/07/2023 23:12

Either. Comedy eye-rolling name for either a boy or girl only used by parents who think they're a bit edgy but are SO not. Please don't call your child Harley. And I'm from a family of bikers and we would all laugh at someone called Harley. Even if they're a lovely person. Which I'm sure your child may very well be.

Thankyou for the different perspective, I guess it doesn't relate to bikes at all for me because I am not into bikes and tbh would know what the bike even looks like.
But I can understand to someone who is in to bikes that it may seem silly.

… so it’s naff either way. Marginally less for a boy I suppose.

continentallentil · 07/07/2023 07:09

It’s a bike

SneezyEvie · 07/07/2023 07:08

I know one boy and one girl, South West. To me, it’s like River or Blake and can really suit both sexes.

Hollyppp · 07/07/2023 07:02

I think it suits a girl but is unisex. Same for Marley, I know a boy and a girl with this name.

personally I don’t like either name but that’s just me

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 07/07/2023 01:33

Agatha Christie had a male character, Harley Quinn.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/07/2023 01:32

I quite like it, but prefer it for a girl. I’m quite old, and have lived in various places in the North of England.

25sheets · 07/07/2023 01:04

Dog. (male one)

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/07/2023 00:57

Adult neice is Harley so girls name to me. And is as far from bikers as you can get.
