Loki

Is Loki a good or bad name for one of our triplet boys?

DH and I jokingly names one Loki because in scans he's always playing up kicking the others, refusing to be measured or simply hiding half of himself! But the name has stuck and DH wants it on the list for names.

I know of the name Loki from just being me but I think people would assume we are massive marvel fans. Neither of us have watched any of the movies or are that into the comic books. But using Norse hood names appeals 🤣

On a side note we are looking for names that are uncommon for boys. The little girl we have named almost (1st and 3rd name agreed) but boys are hard. They would have siblings called Theodore and Cordelia if that helps.

TIA

I know a fair few cats called Loki

flutterby1 · 05/07/2023 13:08

Sounds too much like Lochia to me, pronounced low kee a / lokia

Which is post partum discharge

Sorry

Treecreature · 05/07/2023 13:01

Theodore is great. And Pineapple is amazing. Not feeling Loki though.

PickledScrump · 05/07/2023 12:40

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit both. Clearly she’s talking about the triplets which are boys and then said they have already named the girl. So common sense would tell you the triplets are 2 boys, 1 girl

larkstar · 05/07/2023 12:39

The other 2 sibling names are 3 syllable names containing an "or" sound - a name like Lorenzo would fit in with that sound and pattern.

@IknowYouButIdontLikeYou 🤣🤣 brutal

It's a crap name. I know 2 Lokis - one's a boy, the other is a CAT

Weefreetiffany · 05/07/2023 12:35

@allthecats1982 yeah perhaps not 😂

what about Ambrose? Or another name with an ‘o’ in it like your other two. (Not Loki)

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 05/07/2023 12:32

I know lots of dogs named Loki.

It doesn’t sound right with the siblings names (which are absolutely beautiful).

ManyDogs · 05/07/2023 12:31

Not a fan of Loki at all
How about :-
Finton
Ellis
Macauley
Kit
Jimmy

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/07/2023 12:29

Atreyu you might get away with even though again it's popular culture

SallySailor · 05/07/2023 12:29

Well, aside from current fictional characters who will dwindle in popularity, Loki is kind of ( but not solely, tbf) a baddie in Norse mythology. He starts out being a helper of the gods, but that changes over time and he is instrumental in bringing about Ragnarok, the end of the world. Not sure I'd saddle a child with a name like that. He's got to live with all his life. Fun for a dog though

Frequency · 05/07/2023 12:29

I like it personally but I would be mindful of the Marvel connection. Loki is a feature in the next phase of the movies. Atm he has gone through a character arc and is a "goody" but this could change. Marvel movies are very popular with little boys.

HashBrownandBeans · 05/07/2023 12:28

I like the name Loki and it’s not that unusual now, however it does not go with your other children’s names at all!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/07/2023 12:27

our triplet boys

The little girl we have named almost

Which is it?

Fivebeanchilli · 05/07/2023 12:27

I think Loki is tricky (no pun intended. Just a tricky name to wear) - and definitely less classy than his siblings.
We would have had a Theodore had we had another boy. Other boys' names on our list:
Sebastian
Hugo
Benedict
Rufus
Jasper
Angus
Alastair
Xander

allthecats1982 · 05/07/2023 12:26

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit that's what I'm starting to see. The other two can't be changed at this point because we've already had them for years 🤣 although my 8yo would happily change his name to something more YouTube cool!

OP posts:
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/07/2023 12:25

Loki does not fit with your other 2 choices and is more suited as a cat or dogs name

allthecats1982 · 05/07/2023 12:22

@Weefreetiffany I don't think our catholic family or school would accept Lucifer 🤣 they should... but I don't think they will.

The other list names are Caleb, Gabriel, Atreyu and Atticus

Weefreetiffany · 05/07/2023 12:20

I mean, you could go the other way and name them all after trickster gods- Loki, Eris and Anansi? there’s another thread where someone is questioning calling a daughter Lilith- could you do Loki, Lilith and Lucifer? If you’re goth/pagan enough? If you don’t believe in nominative determinism and all that jazz 😂

allthecats1982 · 05/07/2023 12:15

@StamppotAndGravy I like the name Robin and it would be an easy sell potentially as DH wanted Locksley as a first name but to be called Robin.

OP posts:
StamppotAndGravy · 05/07/2023 12:10

Can't you pick something different and is Loki as a nickname? The full name doesn't even have to be similar because you've got a good story. An English trickster character is Robin Goodfellow if you want similar connotations.

Backstreets · 05/07/2023 11:59

Agree it’s a good name for a dog

allthecats1982 · 05/07/2023 11:58

@SirChenjins I know 🤣 I'll refer you to my reply!

OP posts:
StillWantingADog · 05/07/2023 11:57

dh had Loki on his list (this was before the marvel films so not connected) but we both concluded it was a better name for a dog
