I don't love any boy names

So DS is Kit. Love his name, thought of it quite early on and it always stuck and he's 5 now.
Next DS is on the way and I'm just not loving any names
Names I like but close family have them so I can't:
Ezra
Jesse
Jake
Wren
Names I like but have been vetoed by DP:
Jude
Oscar
Patrick
Names we both liked but just aren't quite right:
Ash
Aiden
Cillian

Any ideas. I'm Irish and have a very common Irish surname (and everyone has my surname double barrelled)
We do live in England though so whilst I could go a bit Irish, I want everyone to be able to pronounce it.
Equally partner is English and I'm happy with an Englishy name too or one that doesn't scream either like Kit!

What about Rory? You could choose to spell it the Irish way too if you’d prefer that

BertieBotts · 05/07/2023 20:37

I barely like any boy names (and have three sons Grin) we seem to have quite similar taste - unusual, I never see people liking the same names I like.

This was my list in the end (includes some I did use and some I didn't/couldn't)

Idris
Alfred (Fred/Freddie) - loved the meaning "Leader of Elves"
Tobias
James
Leo
Alexander (Alex)
Max
Robin
Merlin
Kester
Lars
Oren
Owen

(I love Jesse and Jude!)

DH fell hard in love with Nikolas (Niko) and I tried to like it because he was so adamant but I just never got there XD

MaraScottie · 05/07/2023 20:28

Ronan?

RiotC · 05/07/2023 20:25

@AlyssumandHelianthus Micheal would be really meaningful, as it's my grandad, uncle and my brother (middle name). It's not quite ringing right at the moment!
(I do teach a few Mikeys)

I was going to suggest Tadhg too!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/07/2023 07:52

Silas
Dexter

I kind of wish I'd gone for Dexter for DS - though he's a lefty so might've been a bit weird!

AlyssumandHelianthus · 05/07/2023 07:48

I like Patrick! What about Michael?
Or is there someone meaningful you could name him after?

woolhug · 05/07/2023 07:43

Niall ?

Oooh Laurie. Love it. Reminds me of Little Women.

I know, me too! Feels really wholesome some how!

Lily0719 · 05/07/2023 06:02

@RiotC what about Tadhg? I love the name!

RiotC · 05/07/2023 05:46

So many good options. Got me thinking again! I was in such a rut!

Assuming Kit isn't short for anything, then maybe another similar nickname type name or another less commonplace shortish, nature linked name like Kit:

nn's:
Hal
Cal
Jem
Lex
Xan

nature linked:
Lev
Zev
Ivo
Heath
Fenn

Kit was on my list last time and very nearly my son’s name! I’m also a teacher so had the same problem and started to realise every really nice name seemed to be taken by a child I knew from work that I would not want to be reminded of on a daily basis 🙈 It is a massive issue as a teacher, everyone else can take their pick from any name!

One name I’ve heard since having my son that I’ve thought was really lovely was Blaine. I also liked Brett which I was pregnant. Finn is one of my favourites ever but very popular where I am

Sunshinesprinkles · 04/07/2023 22:54
