Ellie is short for?

DH likes the name Ellie. I don't hate it but would prefer a longer/formal version on BC to give her options.

I like Eleanor, but DH doesn't.

What other names could we consider.

it’s short for Eleanor

seahorsesandmermaids · 06/07/2023 09:09

Basically any name that starts with Ell, ends with Elle or has Ell in the middle.
I like Penelope.

We had a similar situation- husband liked Ellie, I wasn’t so keen on Ellie as a full name. Luckily we both loved Eleanor so went with that. I called her Ellie when I was pregnant but it hasn’t really stuck (she’s turning 4 next week). I’m sure she’ll end up being called Ellie as she gets older though.

How does the extra later change it so much for him, or does it not actually rhyme?! 😂

But hey, it got you close to the name you love so I'm not knocking it!

It does rhyme🤣.

He didn't want people to get confused and call her Eleanor which is his childhood rival's name 🤣

My daughters name is Elowyn. We shorten it to Winnie but we liked that Ellie was also an option!

I love the look of it, is it El oh win?

Elise, Eleanor, Ellen, Elouise, Ellis, Elle

It’s Eloise

continentallentil · 02/07/2023 10:09

There are zillions of Ellies.. could you persuade him to something else?

Otherwise I think Elizabeth is a good idea, as there are so many other short forms she can adopt something else if she gets fed up with it. I have met little Elizabeths who are Essie and Effie. Essie could also work for Esther.

Lottylove · 02/07/2023 08:22

I have an Eleanor, she is Ellie to her friends, but Eleanor to me, she doesn’t mind either way. Always an interesting variety of spellings though!

Wallywobbles · 02/07/2023 08:12

Eliane (not Elaine). Slightly old fashioned French name but I love it.

My daughter is Eleonora (Italian spelling) but mostly gets called Ellie. I also wanted her to have options 👍

MrsClusterduck · 01/07/2023 23:38

We have an Ellena who goes by Ellie. I hated the spelling of Eleanor but people still spell it like that!

sidorek · 01/07/2023 23:13
