@pineapple360 I thought it was Nye-one! Learned something new.

Coffeeandcakemum · 30/06/2023 14:31

Romy

Sunshine202341 · 30/06/2023 14:08

I really like Romy. It’s modern and fresh sounding. I think Naomi is really boring and overdone now.

Poopy is OK but Romy is so much nicer IMO.

CherryLipgloss · 29/06/2023 19:54

Poppy

continentallentil · 29/06/2023 19:53

Naomi is great

The other two quite drippy

pineapple360 · 29/06/2023 17:48

I'm biased because my daughter is called Naomi. We never have issues with the spelling of her name, but sometimes people pronounce it Nye-omi rather than Nay-Omi.

Be a Naomi in a sea of Evies, Ellas, Avas and Aylas!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 29/06/2023 17:47

Despite its popularity, I will never not find Poppy an utterly ridiculous name. Very infantile and cutesy.

Romy is ok, but the Johnsons would put me off using it. I quite like Romily.

Naomi is leagues ahead. Lovely name, suits all ages and not often heard. Doesn't sound dated either. It was on my list but didn't use it in the end.

ColdHandsHotHead · 29/06/2023 17:42

Naomi. I've personally known three dogs and a cat called Poppy. Romy is a nickname.

salamithumbs · 29/06/2023 15:50

I love Naomi! I think Romy sounds a bit nicknamey/insubstantial somehow (but might be a nice nickname for Rosanna or something?) I usually like flower names but I don't really like Poppy, it sounds kind of soppy to my ears and also reminds me of old men since I've heard a lot of Americans call their grandad 'poppy', 'pop-pop' etc.

My Poppy gets Poopy sometimes, or stroppy Poppy (she can be :P) but never Poppycock! 😂
I'm surprised how many are so against Poppy. Obviously I think it's a fab name and we know a few others, I think it's a really fun name, easy to spell, not confusing to pronounce, no obvious nicknames... although we do call her Pops, Pop Pops, Popsy dopsy etc
Also think it's brilliant for any age, she's not going to suddenly stop suiting her name as an adult is she? I always think that is a silly argument against a name!

Not at all. I met a 20 something Poppy. It sounds nice. It goes so well either certain surnames. I say this because I have a surname many things clash with!

katecrackernuts · 29/06/2023 11:47

Naomi is beautiful.

(Gnome is a cute nickname!)

dammit88 · 29/06/2023 11:26

I like them all but Poppy is my favourite

Runningslow · 29/06/2023 10:59

Love naomi

Hotpinkangel19 · 29/06/2023 10:57

Poppy.

Naomi although having read its Moan backwards has put me off!
Don't like Poppy (Poppycock) and hate Romy as it sounds like someone couldn't say Rosemary
Natalie or Natasha?

I think Naomi is ok but sounds a dated. I know quite a few who are around my age (late 30s).

Poppy is nice I don't agree with people saying it's childish I know full grown women called Poppy, Daisy and Rosie and I don't think of any of them as childish.

I love Romy, it's my favourite and makes me think of Romy Schneider. It's also the most unusual of the three, so not everyone will know it and how to pronounce it whereas they'll be familiar with Poppy and Naomi so it depends how you feel about that. Having said that the Naomi's I know pronounce it differently and that seems to cause some confusion too.

MirandaBlu · 29/06/2023 02:55

I really like Naomi.

Poppy reminds me of Poppy Bush, which was what George Bush I's grandchildren called him. (I suspect it was actually "Papi").

Romy is nice, too - it's also a stand-alone girls' name in Hebrew (although probably more often transliterated as Romi), so not always a shortening of other names like Rosemarie, Rosemary, Roma, Romilly, etc.

purplecheesecat · 29/06/2023 02:05

Naiomi is lovely! Not a big fan of Poppy.

Romy

peaceinourtime · 29/06/2023 00:25

I would agree that Naomi is hard to remember how to spell when you don't have to spelt it often. A nickname that could come from Naomi is Noni as it sounds similar. I'm not sure about Romy, maybe go with Romilly which is nice and see what nicknames come from it naturally.

Naomi is my favourite!

What nicknames do you get? I love it but struggle to picture nicknames that are as lovely as the full name. And everyone ends up getting called nicknames really don't they!

My only childhood nickname was Nay :)

I've had name compliments throughout my life including in an interview recently.

MrsApplepants · 28/06/2023 21:25

Naomi is an absolutely beautiful name.
Not fussed on Romy. Don’t like Poppy.

LlynTegid · 28/06/2023 20:45

Naomi would be my choice. Only Poppy I know is a dog (a lovely one though).
