I know that they're marmite names but which do you prefer for a boy?

OP posts:

Quite some offensive comments to us who have a Shay...

With respect, this is the Baby Names board, where people post for frank opinions, and where every thread involves someone tearing to shreds someone’s existing child’s name, or a poster’s own name.

Coffeeandcakemum · 27/06/2023 20:47

I prefer Shay

GlassWall · 27/06/2023 20:45

The weird thing is that they’re both atrocious but in completely contrasting ways — Shay is an aul fella in wellies and milking overalls name, while Chase has a really dated retro-playboy past his prime thing going on.

Séamus itself is nice, though.

gogomoto · 27/06/2023 20:40

Neither, chase just makes me think of the bank, shay just sounds unfinished seamus is a nice name

salamithumbs · 27/06/2023 20:16

Sorry just saw the comment above mine was nearly exactly the same 🤣🤣🤣 great minds!

lol great minds indeed! The two names have such different vibes to me Grin

In Ireland a Shay would never have a brother called Chase. His brother would be called Gerry or Brendan.

Liv999 · 27/06/2023 20:36

Shay very popular in Ireland at the minute, I know a few baby Shays, Chase is a no

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 27/06/2023 20:21

Both are awful.

NashvilleQueen · 27/06/2023 20:19

I really like Shay. Have known a few over the years and they've all been lovely.

MumHereAgain · 27/06/2023 20:18

Our dog is called chase

Deadringer · 27/06/2023 20:17

Lots of aul fellas in Ireland called Shay so wouldn't fancy it. Hate Chase. It doesn't really matter if you love them though.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 27/06/2023 20:17

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 27/06/2023 13:51

For a male puppy, Chase.

For a male child, neither.

This. Sorry but you asked....

Chase is bad, Shay is truly awful and must be an abbreviation for Shane. Sorry!

I really like Shay! I know a few Shays, think they're short for Seamus but I think it's nice as a full name. Not fond of Chase, think it sounds kind of trendy 2000s American or something! Like the cool guy the girls would fancy in a Hilary Duff film

TheMurderousGoose · 27/06/2023 18:23

Shay is pretty common in Ireland. Usually short for Séamus. They're generally good dependable blokes.

Chase sounds like a character in an American soap. He'd have a bouffant and be getting up to all sorts of sexy shenanigans with Peyton and Dayton.

vicaragechristmas · 27/06/2023 14:19

Shay, because like others I think of Chase from Paw Patrol! And it seems less like a name than Shay. Shay sounds like a shortening of something though, is there anything you could use as a longer version so DS can use the longer one if he prefers?

ecuse · 27/06/2023 14:18

No to both from me

savethegorgeousbees · 27/06/2023 14:14

Ehhhh it's a naw from me.

satellitesunshine · 27/06/2023 14:13

no

TrustPenguins · 27/06/2023 14:13

Love Shay!

GodessOfThunder · 27/06/2023 14:11

both - Chase and Shaytus

LizzieBet14 · 27/06/2023 14:10

Shea

orangeflags · 27/06/2023 14:09

Chay as in the famous sailor is ok

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 27/06/2023 14:09

Seamus or Charles. I like Shay, but I really don’t like the spelling, and I’d go with Seamus as a full name.

I know a few people called Chase - ranging in age from toddler to mid 40s - but they are all Charles as a full name.

Corgilicious · 27/06/2023 14:08

Neither, sorry. There are so many interesting names out there...
