I know that they're marmite names but which do you prefer for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2023 20:35

Neither, sorry!

clpsmum · 29/06/2023 20:31

Don't ask the mumsnet squads advice unless you're planning on calling him Albert/Arthur/Wilfred 🤮

clpsmum · 29/06/2023 20:30

Chase

There are loads of shays around here but I only know of one chase

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/06/2023 20:22

John or David. Sorry, but that's my opinion.

drpet49 · 29/06/2023 20:16

Chase. I can’t stand Shay as a name.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 29/06/2023 20:12

Neither

TimeToMoveIt · 29/06/2023 20:04

I know brothers called Chase and Shey

I like both but think I prefer Shey. There's quite a few mid/late teens called Chase around these parts

born2runaway · 29/06/2023 19:59

Chase 🤣

Dear god

continentallentil · 29/06/2023 19:59

Seamus is nice though - can you not call him that and Shay for short if you must? At least he has options..

continentallentil · 29/06/2023 19:57

Any other options?

They are both really grim, sorry OP. I suppose Chase is a bit better, but just because it is daft rather than thuggish

MovingBird123 · 29/06/2023 08:13

Chase is a no.

Do you want Shay to rhyme with way, or do you mean Shai (ie. Hebrew name for gift) pronounced shy?

mathanxiety · 29/06/2023 00:57

Shay is really nice.
Chase is not.

HarpyValley · 29/06/2023 00:34

Shay makes me think of Irish footballer Shay Given (short for Séamus) so doesn’t feel odd as a male name.

Chase…not for me.

peaceinourtime · 29/06/2023 00:27

I've always though of Shay/Shea and Chase as girls names.

User163876621 · 27/06/2023 21:50

Chase is a name you would see in a Hallmark type series

St0nehenge · 27/06/2023 21:49

Shay, but I'd put seamus or Hamish on bc.

Chase sounds like an American bank. I'm conjuring up a tommy hilfiger ad. That might be a good thing!! I can smell the lemons.

100yellowroses · 27/06/2023 21:47

Chase

Apparentlystillchilled · 27/06/2023 21:46

I have a Seamus nn Shay, so I’m biased. I am Irish and live in England so I like that it’s a clearly Irish name but easy for people to pronounce (rather than other names on my list, like Diarmuid and Padraig)

BCBird · 27/06/2023 21:42

Neither

SparkyBlue · 27/06/2023 21:40

Shay is lovely and as others have said it's really common around here and usually short for Seamus.

Simonjt · 27/06/2023 21:39

Shay is a lovely Irish and Asian boys name

sunshineandtea · 27/06/2023 21:36

Neither.
Chase is a cartoon dog and a man called Shay assaulted me as a teen 😬

DustyLee123 · 27/06/2023 21:36

Chase. Met one today and he was a lovely polite young man.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/06/2023 21:35

I know a Che which is much nicer. Neither for me though.

melodygrant · 27/06/2023 21:14

I love Shea.

Chase is really not very nice IMO.
