Hi

DH and I both like name Rebecca but I am wondering, is it very common for all Rebecca's to be called Becky or Becca? I'm not a fan of the latter two and not sure I'd call the baby Rebecca if the likelihood is the name will be shortened.

Bexamundo the amount of times I’ve been called Rachael too, why? Is nothing like Rebecca!

Another Rebecca here who gets called Rachel.

Personally though I love my name. I did have it shortened when I was younger and to this family still call me Bec or Becca. If anyone else tries to shorten it though I correct them once and then refuse to answer.

Congratulations op. I knew a Rebecca professionally aged in her early fifties, she always goes by Rebecca in the work sense but I have heard her calling herself Bec when she would give herself pep talks.

Bexamundo · 15/10/2023 23:13

Faithful wife..or knotted cord! 🤔

What beautiful meaning does Rebecca have?

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 12/10/2023 21:08

Oh I’m so happy you’ve chosen this gorgeous name with such a beautiful meaning. My Rebecca (Boo) is now 13. Yours will be too in a flash! 🥹Congratulations OP. Blessings to your little one. ❤️💐

Rebecca is such a beautiful name!

It's feminine but strong, and elegant but warm.

Congrtaulations on your Baby Rebecca💕

Have NCd.

First of all, congrats OP. Lovely news.

Secondly, I'm another Rebecca who gets Rachel an awful lot. Emails at work sent to my actual name, starting, Hi Rachel... 😵‍💫🤣

Also have had Bec, Bex, Becca, Becky basically my whole life. Don't mind it really.

Zola1 · 11/10/2023 11:36

It'll definitely be shortened. I know loads of Rebeccas... the one I know who tries to use her formal name at work, friends still call her Becks.

Whataretheodds · 11/10/2023 11:33

I knew a Rebecca who shortened to Reb - suited her well.

Dizzydeers · 11/10/2023 10:18

One of my DDs had a Rebecca in her class and she’s only ever known as Rebecca, it’s a beautiful name.

We went for Rebecca in the end, it's just such a lovely name 🥰

Our baby girl was born in June 23, we've called her Rebecca (Becca for short). Everyone we have told her name has responded with lovely things to say and how refreshing it is to hear a traditional name 🥰

Thank you so much everyone 💞💞

and yes, I get called Rachel all the time!

congratulations on your dd x

steppemum · 03/07/2023 15:32

It is my name. I am mid 50s.

I have never ever been a Becky, I just used to stare at people who shortened it to Becky, and so no-one ever did.

Family claled me Becca or Becs.

But as an adult I reclaimed Rebecca and I am called that by everyone. I introduce myself as rebecca and no-one tries ot shorten it.

I know a few people with names which are traditionally shortened and they use the full name. Doesn't take people long to get with it and call them their full name.

CommaChameleon7 · 03/07/2023 15:13

I have an 11 year old Rebecca. I think it's a beautiful name. She doesn't tend to have it shortened at school or with her friends. Shortened to Becca by her dad and I

Congratulations! 💐

Welcome to your little Rebecca 💕

greyhairnomore · 03/07/2023 06:56

You can always call her Rebecca. My daughter has a name that is often shortened we never have nor have her friends.

Allforit · 03/07/2023 06:44

My teen Rebecca is Becca to us, but always Rebecca at school and with friends. Congratulations on your little Rebecca

As for Rebecca/Rachel... I cannot ever remember if someone is a Linda or Tracey! My friends mum I've known for 25 years I still have to really think about it!

AuntMarch · 01/07/2023 23:30

My brothers name was shortened to one thing by family when he was young. When he hut secondary school, he ended up with a different version from them. He is still those two different names to the two different groups in his 30s and I've just realised I've no idea what he actually introduces himself as... I'd guess the friends name though as that's his social circle!

My son as a name you can shorten. I don't love the options but don't mind them either. So far my brother is the only person who uses one but I'm pretty sure his friends will in the future too and that's ok. Doesn't mean I have to!
