How would you say this name?
Add-uh-leen
Add-uh-line
Add-uh-linn

One of the reasons we chose DS1's name is that there's literally only 1 spelling and 1 pronunciation and it's not well used but everyone's heard of it.
I like Adaline for DC2 but I think it might be one with various pronunciations and people constantly asking how to spell it.
Just wanted to see if there is a consensus here!

My dd's friend is Adeline - no one struggles to pronounce, all say Add-a-line

I actually struggle more with Evelyn and seem to always use the wrong pronunciation for the child, ironic as it's so popular.

DuchessOfSausage · 23/06/2023 07:14

Adeline is a much nicer spelling. Madeleine and Caroline are prettier names.

DramaAlpaca · 23/06/2023 01:18

It's been said upthread already - it's pronounced with the same ending as Caroline and the usual spelling is Adeline. Adaline looks wrong, and any other pronunciation isn't right.

AnyaMarx · 23/06/2023 01:13

(It's called Adeline)

AnyaMarx · 23/06/2023 01:09

One of my fave songs

RosieS22 · 23/06/2023 01:05

We have an Adaline 🥰
Pronounced Add-a-line

Yes, we have to spell/confirm how to pronounce once we first meet people but it's not a big deal. We get lots of compliments on her name.

I was back and forth between this spelling and the French Adeline version for the same reasons, but we preferred Adaline and glad we went with it.

CastleTower · 22/06/2023 06:59

I know two babies called this, both add a line (like the film).

windowof · 22/06/2023 06:51

My friend has an Adelyn (pronounced "ah-dih-linn") I'd pronounce it the same way it's just a different spelling of the same name.
I'm also Scottish and this pronunciation makes sense to me. Never heard anyone use a "line" pronunciation regardless of spelling.
Beautiful name. My only hesitation would be it will get mis-spelled often, however people mis-spell my child's name which is a really popular Biblical name that only really has one spelling!

Thank you. It’s a while since I watched it.

wafflyversatile · 22/06/2023 01:55

Not seen that spelling before.

I've seen

Adeline - risk of the i being pronounced eye instead of ee.

Adelene- Specifically to avoid the above.

DrFoxtrot · 22/06/2023 01:05

I would say line at the end like Caroline

Add - a - line

continentallentil · 22/06/2023 01:00
