Kiswahili · 20/06/2023 18:41

Expecting twins boys on 23June. My husband is obsessed with matching names. I am more flexible but to be honest I'd rather not.

My favourites are
Sebastian and Dorian
Florian and Tristian

My husband's
Jayden and Jaylen
Nick and Nico

Zig and Zag
Pinky and Perky
Mercury and Uranus
Nostradamus and Voltaire

Na Voltaire was a racist or any philosophers from les années lumières. But thanks for the other suggestions.

Not matching, but at least have names in the same ball park eg not Ptolemy and Steve

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 20/06/2023 19:16

I agree with others
Sebastian and Nicholas - Seb and Nico
or
Sebastian and Edward

They work well together. 3 days, keep us updated what you go with and good luck 💐

Matching clothing is fine but use slightly different colours.

Hollyppp · 20/06/2023 19:12

Your husbands suggestions are just plain silly

I have 3 days to find a name. I feel I will never

No you have 3 days and 6 weeks

Blueroses99 · 20/06/2023 19:12

Jayden and Jaylen look too similar. My sister and I have matchy names which are half a letter different - think n vs m - but easily read as the same name. Luckily we are different ages and have different birthdays so it was obvious when we were mixed up. When she started working, HMRC thought I’d taken a second job and wanted to tax her accordingly. Things like that have got to be harder to unravel when they are both called Jayden (because it’s the more familiar name) and have the same date of birth.

Nick and Nico sound too similar. You’ll have both of them ignoring you because they will think you’re calling the other. Again, I speak from experience!

If you are keen for the names to match, having the same ending or nicknames that go together would be better than having too similar names. What I mean by nicknames is like Ronnie and Roxy on Eastenders. I know they’re not twins but no one is going to confuse Veronica and Roxanne formally.

Honeyroar · 20/06/2023 19:12

I think Nick and Nico are too similar. I don’t mind matching names. Sebastian and Nico don’t work for me, Nico sounds like a nickname compared to Sebastian.

ManuelBensonsLeftBoot · 20/06/2023 19:11

Not slightly different versions of the same name, not rhyming, not themed not even the same initials. And give the twin born second the name that comes first alphabetically.

Probationnotontarget · 20/06/2023 19:11

And for gods sake ...please do not make them wear the same clothes... that is just sick...

I agree with this! I hate seeing twins all matching.

Mine managed til year 10 without being sussed by the PE teachers and they were in one class together and the teacher didn’t twig!!

Im proud they are individuals with their own dress style and friends -

Def not the same initials, such a problem with official paperwork if they are both Mr. N Smith, same dob same address

Ah but it can help sometimes….
I went out with a twin when at uni. We went on a trip to Europe on a coach. Got to London and realised he’d forgotten his passport. We had theee hours until the international coach departed. He rang his twin and borrowed his passport!! One was Jeremy, one was Jack. The ticket said Mr J Jones!

okayah · 20/06/2023 19:09

I think Sebastian and Nico go together so nicely, classy and individual.

Let them have that, as they will be "the twins" most of the time anyway

Maireas · 20/06/2023 19:09

Kiswahili · 20/06/2023 19:08

No :)

Neither Adolf and Hitler :)

How about Neville and Chamberlain?

DuchessOfSausage · 20/06/2023 19:08

I'm not a fan of long names at the best of times, but two long names for twins will be a mouthful, and 'Twins' isn't. They are individuals.

Even identical twins aren't always identical, I know some who look remarkably alike but only a few who look exactly alike.

Even siblings or non-identical twins have their names mixed up.

Kiswahili · 20/06/2023 19:08

Maireas · 20/06/2023 19:04

Martin and Luther?
Cassius and Clay?
Ah, come on now.
Did he also suggest Malcolm and X?

No :)

Neither Adolf and Hitler :)

Dawn and Lucy
Thomas and Oliver
James and Robert
Felix and Kit
Edward and Sam
These are the twins I have taught fairly recently. Proper, non-matching names.

Dawn and Lucy's parents had the theme of 'light' for the names. Could you have a themed meaning rather than matching names?

Hotandverybotheredagain · 20/06/2023 19:07

Sebastian and Laurence…Seb and Laurie when they are older .

titchy · 20/06/2023 19:06

How about one name each? Sebastian and Jayden would definitely be a yooneek pairing.

Vitaminbees · 20/06/2023 19:06

Soubriquet · 20/06/2023 19:05

Edward and Sebastian go

Seb and Ed -nope

agree with Sebastian and Nico
or even Sebastian and Cassius

RiaOverTheRainbow · 20/06/2023 19:06

My only hesitation with Sebastian and Nico is the difference in length, but Sebastian and Nicholas, known as Seb and Nico when they're young, works well.

And I've just noticed they both start and end with N and S, if that would help persuade your husband!

If he really won't budge I'd compromise with matching (but not ridiculous Hmm) middle names.

LittleBearPad · 20/06/2023 19:05

He’s winding you up.

Or he’s a fuckwit.

Possibly a bit of both.

Anoisagusaris · 20/06/2023 19:06

Nick and Nico are the only decent names out of everything you have listed. But not for twins obviously as they are basically the same names.

Hotandverybotheredagain · 20/06/2023 19:06

Definitely not matching names and also different initials ..they are two individual human beings .
