Could be Nicolas or straight Nico. Mainly worried about posh/pretentious…

Velvet Underground

Judgyjudgy · 09/06/2023 06:44

I'd think Italian heritage or you just like something more interesting than the standard, boring, old man names people seem to generally go for

grass321 · 09/06/2023 06:39

All of the alternative names are v posh - king names!

I'm not so sure Louis is super posh. William's son aside, I've seen it more in a group with Tylers, Finlays etc.

KrasiTime · 09/06/2023 06:36

I’m Greek. Know lots of Nico or Nicos. Short for Nicolas.

Dotcheck · 09/06/2023 06:33

Redshoeblueshoe · 08/06/2023 17:21

It would make me think that someone loved Velvet Underground

Me too!

Daffodilwoman · 09/06/2023 06:24

I’d think dark, wavy hair, dark eyes and dark skin. I’d also assume male.

Louise295 · 08/06/2023 22:38

My family are Spanish and it's my cousins name so I'd think Spaniard Grin

Maddy70 · 08/06/2023 22:37

I taught a lovely boy called Nico and it reminded me of him

Whatsfordinneragain · 08/06/2023 22:30

Italian

Thanks all. At least not too posh! It’s tricky - def my favourite, goes great with our surname and I think gives a bit of choice into growing up (ie Nick is a great adult name). Plus much more interesting than the rest of our shortlist (Henry, Arthur, Louis essentially).

But super conscious of the ‘is is trying too hard if we don’t have an Italian bone in our body?’ thing - does worry me a bit!

All of the alternative names are v posh - king names!

Jumbojem · 08/06/2023 22:27

I like Nico. I wouldn't think posh as the one DS knows is not. His parents are polish so I'd also not necessarily assume Italian if I met another. The velvet underground connection never occurred to me, and I loved them in my teens.
I have a Felix and was worried his friends would tease him about the cat food. Never happened, only older folk have mentioned any cat connections whatsoever. I don't think the contemporaries of any Nico's are going to mention velvet underground.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 08/06/2023 22:27

I'd think you are trendy. Like milo.
You'd have people pronouncing it diffenetly - nick-oh or neeq-oh

Catbumps · 08/06/2023 22:22

Makes me think of the 1980s

arghtriffid · 08/06/2023 22:21

Velvet Underground.

scrivette · 08/06/2023 22:20

I would think F1 drivers.

When DS was born and placed on me I said 'Nico' as a name but DH vetoed it. He has Nicholas as a middle name though instead.

I think it's a lovely name and I also like Nicholas.

JMSA · 08/06/2023 22:19

It's cute but definitely not posh.

Sparkleshine21 · 08/06/2023 22:19

Makes me think of killing eve 😂

Alwayswonderedwhy · 08/06/2023 22:17

I would assume Italian. Definitely wouldn't think posh or pretentious.

Trez1510 · 08/06/2023 22:17

Cocopogo · 08/06/2023 20:35

The middle aged woman on Emmerdale

This. It sounds so try-hard when her screen husband refers to her as 'Neeeko' that I physically cringe. 😂

Forgetmenott · 08/06/2023 22:17

I would assume it was a French girl. Or some other European connection. But definitely a girl.

Lightbulbspark · 08/06/2023 22:14

For Nico or Niko, I'd think you had a Greek ancestry. Nick and Nicholas are great but there can be a bit of teasing with Knickerless. But then no name is immune from that type of teasing.

JimnJoyce · 08/06/2023 22:13

F1 driver. Great name

egowise · 08/06/2023 22:11

drpet49 · 08/06/2023 17:22

That you were Italian

This

adamsaboutnothing · 08/06/2023 22:11

Literally the most popular boy name in my village at the moment. I know 4 born in the last 6 months. All Nico's, not shortened for anything else.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 08/06/2023 22:10

My first thoughts are Nico Rosberg and Nico Hulkenburg, both F1 drivers. I'd pronounce it Neeco and I really like the name. If you love it, use it 😀
