Hugh or Hugo?

I love both, and was originally keen on Hugh until I chatted to a close friend: a Hugh who wishes he was Hugo. Apparently his name is frequently misheard (Hugh/You/who).

Hugo does feel a little more bouncy and current (even though it dates back to mediaeval times). Which do you prefer?

I don't like either, but Hugo is the better choice imo.

Hugh just sounds like a noise. You could call siblings Humph and Hmm.

I like Hugh or Hughie

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 06/06/2023 20:15

I prefer Hugo.

Hugh.
Hugo seems a but trendy. Hugo is the 45th most popular boy's name in England & Wales.

I much prefer Hugh - to me it is more solid, trustworthy and less pretentious than Hugo

ourflagmeansdeath · 06/06/2023 18:18

Hugo. Hugh seems more like a sound than a name to me

MrsLiam · 06/06/2023 18:02

I like Hugh. He sounds like a solid, dependable chap you'd get round to help you with some odd jobs. Hugo sounds like a posh twat.

Thingsthatgo · 06/06/2023 17:54

I love Hugh! So much more elegant than Hugo (which imo on a par with Boris).

rosiegoodwin5432 · 06/06/2023 17:44

Definitely prefer Hugo!

Throwawayme · 06/06/2023 17:38

Crumbs, neither really. Maybe because the nickname for Hugh in Scotland is Shug for some reason. I guess I prefer Hugo at a push.

RangleDrang · 06/06/2023 17:37

Honestly? Neither. Both sound like insufferable posh twot names.

WhisperingAutistic · 06/06/2023 17:37

Much prefer Hugo
