Thoughts on Mordecai?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Flidina · 05/06/2023 22:59

Not keen on it , to be honest, definitely a Harry Potter feel to it, really like Malachi though.

WantToBeHappyAndHealthy · 05/06/2023 22:58

"So...
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!"

This is the first thing that springs to my mind 😁

Pretentious or weird.

Pretentious and weird

BlameItOnTheGoose · 05/06/2023 22:50

Mordecai Richler - great author. I've always loved the name because of him

greenspaces4peace · 05/06/2023 22:50

very Hebrew.

Ketzele · 05/06/2023 22:48

I love the name and it doesn't sound odd to me (Jewish heritage) but I think it is very marmite. Mind you, my family names include Pinchas, Bruno, Hedwig and Candida so my vote might not be worth much.

pizzaHeart · 05/06/2023 21:39

Im not keen on it personally but would assume that you are Jewish

shatteredmum1 · 05/06/2023 21:38

Yes I remember reading his books .
Mordecai is a Jewish name. Some of these replies are questionable to say the least.

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 05/06/2023 21:37

As a person who lives near a large orthodox Jewish community there are quite a few who live in that community. I would assume you belonged to the Jewish community.
It's not a particularity pleasant sounding name, I couldn't inflict that on a child

WhisperingAutistic · 05/06/2023 21:36

I like it!

Nookable · 05/06/2023 21:36

Probably a niche reference but there's a a character called Mordecai in the children's book series The Roman Mysteries. He doesn't have a happy arc.

I kind of love it as a name but I don't think I'd ever give it to a child,it seems too big. I imagine a person called Mordecai to be an elderly hasidic man.

AlbertaWildRose · 05/06/2023 21:33

As a Canadian, I immediately think of Mordecai Richler, the famous writer, so it sounds fine to me.

SpringIntoChaos · 05/06/2023 21:31

🤦‍♀️

TheCyclingGorilla · 05/06/2023 21:31

Not a good idea.

regular show mordecai GIF by Cartoon Network EMEA
SirenSays · 05/06/2023 21:30

Amazing for a video game character. Less so for a real child. I'd be worried it would get shortened to Mord which is even worse.

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 21:30

And also ‘don’t be silly’

Fairymother · 05/06/2023 21:30

Sounds like a demon in a tv series

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 21:29

No

waterlego · 05/06/2023 21:29

and Rigby

SuperbSummer2023 · 05/06/2023 21:29

Just no

HeadacheEarthquake · 05/06/2023 21:27

Sounds villainous tbh

Tadpolle · 05/06/2023 21:25

Pretentious or weird.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 05/06/2023 21:22

I'm a Christian so I know exactly which character you mean from the book of Esther however to me I can't shake the Harry Potter connotations and also the fact that Morde has too many death associations morde / mort etc in many languages means death. Sorry.

IneedcoffeeinanIV · 05/06/2023 21:21

It reminds me of Children of the corn

Hannahsbananas · 05/06/2023 21:20

I’d be instantly banned if I shared my thoughts on that.
