Expecting DD2 and think we've settled on Isobel for her first name (with that spelling) 😊

Could you please say which of these middle name combinations you like best?

Isobel Anne
Isobel Barbara
Isobel Charlotte
Isobel Rebecca
Isobel Rosalind

Our surname is 2 syllables if that helps. Thank you!

I think a middle name with fewer syllables works better. I have an Isobel Grace with a two syllable surname. I like Isobel Ann…

itsgettingweird · 06/06/2023 04:38

So my favourite between your 1 is Isobel Anne

itsgettingweird · 06/06/2023 04:37

My first thoughts before reading yours were

Anne, grace and Louise.

mathanxiety · 06/06/2023 04:35

I think you could tweak Anne a little -
Isobel Anoushka
Isobel Annika
Isobel Anna

Even though it has some significance for you, Anne comes across as a bit of a filler middle name.

Or Isobel Charlotte Anne?

Two different names to me.

Isobel (well Isabel really) is the Spanish version of Elizabeth.

I suppose because you don't get the 'th' sound in Spanish.

Isobel and Elizabeth are basically the same name.

Two different names to me.

MorningMoaner · 06/06/2023 01:58

I have an Isabel and a 2 syllable surname and her middle name is Anne so obviously I'm biased, but I do think a short middle name goes best with that combination of first name and surname. But all of your options are ok. Barbara would be my least favourite but I like all the others. In all honesty, when does anyone say the whole name together? Not very often really, so whilst certain combinations do flow better than others it probably doesn't matter that much so I would just pick the name that you feel has most meaning for you.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 06/06/2023 01:55

Isobel Clara

Pemba · 06/06/2023 01:41

Isobel and Elizabeth are basically the same name.

Without a doubt, Isobel Charlotte.

My Grandmother was Isobel Elizabeth.

Charlotte

But If Anne has meaning I’d go for Isobel Charlotte Anne

That’s in answer to your second post

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 21:41

Charlotte

But If Anne has meaning I’d go for Isobel Charlotte Anne

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 21:39

Also like Rosalind - and it’s much more unusual than Isobel and Charlotte so that might be a reason to go for it

Anne’s a bit dull, Barbara’s a bit matronly and Rebecca just doesn’t quite go

DuchessOfSausage · 05/06/2023 20:53

Isobel Charlotte. I know too many people with Anne as a middle name.
There are probably thousands of Isabelle Roses.
I like all of OP's suggested middle names especially Rosalind but most are a bit too long with a three syllable first name.
If Rebecca is the one with special meaning go with that.

midsomermurderess · 05/06/2023 20:46

Isobel Anne. And it’s lovely to have a middle name that carries some meaning.
