What would you name a brother to Maud and Persephone (who often goes by Sephy)?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

If either of my sons had been a girl Persephone was on the list. Maud will be my next female dog name - as I won't be having more children! Eli or Jacob for a boy perhaps..

In all seriousness, @MaudandSephy x I think Maud is lovely (Lucy Maud Montgomery! And my great aunt) and Sephy is cute (although she definitely owns a pony). Congratulations on expecting your little boy.

  • niche quote, because very few people know Rob Reiner’s The Sure Thing, which is a damned shame.

Please not Ansel it’s too much like Anusol the haemorrhoid ointment.

Prescottdanni123 · 04/06/2023 18:46

Mumsnet rudeness never fails to surpass my expectations. It is common on here for people to provide negative comments about a name before the baby has actually been born and the OP is just looking for opinions, but criticising a name after the child has already had it for however many years is just out of order. If you met someone in the street and they named introduced their child as Maud, would you honestly turn around and reply with "That's an awful name?"

OP, I actually think that Maud is a lovely name.

Definitely a two syllable name. The oddness of Maud and Persephone is partly due to the contrast between one and four syllables.

Names like Montgomery which has the same stress pattern as Persephone, would in my opinion be much too clumsy when you were listing your children's names.

Hector, Benedict, Roderick, Glenn

Another vote for Arthur

Maud Persephone and Arthur sounds perfect to me.

I would suggest you have a wishy washy name to match Maud otherwise she will end up with name envy. Can't believe you have a fantastic name like Persephone along side a Maud. Shock
