Girls baby names that are "cool, but not Americanised"

Hello

So we are having a surprise born august.
We have decided a boys name but cannot decide a girls name.
I like Nina but DH has vetoed
He likes Marnie I have vetoed on the ground it's a bit American.
We are looking for something shortish, just a bit hip and cool but not to out there. Even something a bit "surfery".
Any suggestions welcome!

Why do you think it's particularly American?

I know one Marnie. 16. Intelligent, articulate and beautiful. I'd go with that!

Suki - I’ve always thought that was such a cool name. I picture someone beautiful and rather aloof. Also Coco, I know a VERY cool Coco, she’s so effortlessly stylish and comfortable in her own skin. Artemis (Misty for short), Damaris, Manon, Anastasia, Mimi, Sunny.

Is 'American' code for 'chav', or 'common' on here? The deeply socially-anxious of Mumsnet being on near constant manoeuvres to avoid being thought to be something so horrific. It almost comical.

I know Nevaeh gets a lot of hate on here (and the origin, heaven spelled backwards, is incredibly cheesy).

But I know two little girls with that name, and in real life it is just a very pretty name. Pronounced “NeVAYa”

Interesting theme for a name, and you will think of the right one when you meet your little surfer baby. 😀
