Names like Polly

Want to go back to the drawing board to make sure we’re not missing anything.

I love Polly - I love that it’s simple, classic, instantly recognisable but not too overused and has a fun vibe to it.
DH has vetoed it.

Are there any names with a similar vibe that I may be missing? Not keen on Molly, Holly etc so don’t necessarily mean names that sound similar. Also dislike the names it’s derived from or a nn for - Mary, Pauline, Penelope, Phoebe etc. Feel I have trawled through all the names lists but need to be sure there’s nothing out there that has been overlooked!

thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Polly is a great name: ageless and uncommon. I have a Nancy- also a great name!

I have a Polly (she’s now 3) and I constantly get compliments on her name I absolutely love it, it’s pretty but also strong and I love that it’s hardly heard really even though it’s not an unusual name as such. Other names I love with similar vibes are -

Billie
Romi
Piper
Dotty
Effie
Goldie
Mabel
Etta
Etti

Polly is my favourite though xx

What about Susie/Susannah?

Newnamenewname109870 · 04/06/2023 18:32

Pollys I knew (only two) had siblings Sara and Prim(rose). Different families.

But you know it might just be an outlier. The names I like are quite different to each other.

What about Millie or Mandy?

ZittiEBuoni · 04/06/2023 18:31

oh, and Elizabeth! Why aren't there more little Elizabeths? So many lovely shorter versions of it too.

ZittiEBuoni · 04/06/2023 18:30

I have a Polly, and other names I like are Clemency, Rose, Jemima, Imogen.

I love Polly too but my Dh vetoed it too. I ended up with a Poppy and Sylvie

💛 Sylvie!

OP, it's simple. Once you've given birth and are holding your brand new wrinkly baby, allow a tear to slide down your cheek and say, "She just looks so much like a Polly to me". DH will think you're so much of a rock star at that point, he'll agree to anything 😀

🤣🙌👍

Polly isn't a 'nn' for Pauline, Penelope etc, it's a 'nn' for Mary.

Pollyanna is bloomin' awful.

Polly as a standalone name is lovely, as is Mary.

pinkfrog55 · 04/06/2023 08:18

Some absolutely gorgeous suggestions, and plenty to consider. Thank you all so much.

@EconomyClassRockstar haha this is brilliant, DH is so stubborn I’m not even sure this would work, but might be worth a try ;)
