I think we have our name - Romilly Wren

Curious to know what people think about our chosen name?

Romilly Wren (surname begins Ch, two syllables)

It was always between Romilly, Wren or Delphine/Delphi. And then someone suggested Wren as a middle name and bam, loved it. I do hope little one doesn't get 'Milly' as a nickname though 😕 This is our fourth child and I just think this goes so well with the others.

Maybe they would be better with a name inbetween?

Muncha · 30/05/2023 18:46

I like both names but don't think they go together at all!

I don’t think they go well together and also not that keen on wren. Romilly Delphi sounds a little better. I also prefer milly to romy. Is it because it’s popular you don’t like it? Or you don’t like shortenings at all? In which case I’d go with Wren as it’s not going to get shortened!

Just not a fan of Milly. I have taught too many. I like unusual names tbh.

Ah thanks folks, I do appreciate your replies. My 7 year old is also a R - R name, and it's never been weird.

I'm a fan of Romilly Mae, that's very sweet!

Pretty, but... if she's Wren-Ch- then you have just called her after part of a toolkit.

Exactly what I came to say! ‘Spanner, screwdriver, pliers and Romilly Wren..ch dinner time!’

Also what if she has a speech impediment? Womilly Wen.

They are lovely names but not together.

Lovelynames123 · 30/05/2023 18:32

I love it, my daughter is Bromily Beth, so very similar!

BriarHare · 30/05/2023 18:28

Romilly is lovely. One of my god daughter’s names. She’s 20 and known as Romy.

Pairing it with Wren is too alliterative and twee. I know no-one uses middle names so it may not matter, but it sounds a bit silly

TrueScrumptious · 30/05/2023 18:27

I like Romilly, but I have to say it doesn’t go with Wren, which I admit I don’t like.

HappyMarriage · 30/05/2023 18:25

Romilly is beautiful, and so is Milly if that does happen.

I never get the fuss over Wren, it looks pretty written down but really it’s just the sound Ren like Ren and Stimpy and I don’t love it with Romilly. As other have said maybe with another middle name in there to break up the alliteration?

Maireas · 30/05/2023 18:20

Romilly Anne is nice.

oldnorsesaga · 30/05/2023 18:18

Sorry, meant to say I'm just now seeing all the comments!

oldnorsesaga · 30/05/2023 18:18

Just now seeing all the combos
but I think Romilly Wren is hard to say because Ls at the end of Romilly. R-m-LL-R doesn't sound that well, but Romilly Anne or similar name might. Romilly Mae perhaps?

Hugasauras · 30/05/2023 16:30

It's a bit of a tongue twister but you hardly ever say both first and middle names together at least. Try saying it fast three times! Grin

I don't personally like either name that much but that's the thing about names, isn't it? It doesn't really matter what other people think.

Maireas · 30/05/2023 16:29

I really dislike the name Wren. Where I live it's a cheap kitchen fitter.
However, Romilly is pretty and not over used.

Lovely names but a lot of rrr sounds to get around if she’s not able to pronounce them. The middle name won’t be said too often though, so perhaps it doesn’t matter.

Only on like important occasions like a wedding or graduation possibly.

peacelemon · 30/05/2023 16:27

I'm really sorry, don't want to burst your bubble and all but I really struggle to say that out loud.

FernGully43 · 30/05/2023 16:23

I don't know if it's because I'm Scottish but I find it difficult to say altogether🙈 it's the Rs

ZestFest · 30/05/2023 16:22

They're both nice enough names, but I don't like them together. I think that takes the shine off both of them

StaunchMomma · 30/05/2023 16:18

Don't mind Romilly (prefer Delphine) or Wren I
(Love Wren as a first name, actually) but Romilly Wren is a bit heavy on the R's maybe?

Really minor issue though. Most people she meets in life won't ever know what her middle name is.

Go with what you feel is right, OP.

MindIfISlytherin · 30/05/2023 15:50

It's very pretty but my first attempt to say it out loud ended up as "Womilly Wen" so maybe a re-think on the combo is required? I would say either add in a second middle name (e.g. Romilly Elizabeth Wren" - doesn't have to be Elizabeth, I just picked the first girl name I thought of) or change one of them?

oldnorsesaga · 30/05/2023 15:38

I love Romilly, but also like Milly more than Romy. Do you plan to use nicknames or just full name?
Romilly Wren is lovely

spiderlight · 30/05/2023 15:32

I love it. We have a little Wren in the family and it's such a pretty name.

ourflagmeansdeath · 30/05/2023 15:27

I think it's quite pretty even though I'm not normally keen on Romilly as an individual name. But Romilly Wren I actually quite like. Congratualations.
