I think we have our name - Romilly Wren

Curious to know what people think about our chosen name?

Romilly Wren (surname begins Ch, two syllables)

It was always between Romilly, Wren or Delphine/Delphi. And then someone suggested Wren as a middle name and bam, loved it. I do hope little one doesn't get 'Milly' as a nickname though 😕 This is our fourth child and I just think this goes so well with the others.

I can't say it.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 31/05/2023 22:45

I think it's super cute! I am bias as my son is called Wren, but I love Romily. I think it would be shortened to Romy.

thewillowbunnies · 31/05/2023 22:39

Nooo sorry...it's an absolute mouthful. Does not go together at all.

DipperandMabel · 31/05/2023 22:38

I must admit Romilly makes me think Romy, then I think Romy and Michelle’s High school reunion and I love that movie so I like the name. However, I think it will be shortened to Romy if that bothers you? Romy is also beautiful.

I don’t like Wren at all (sorry!) but I don’t think the two R sounding names are a problem - if you like it go for it!

What are your other kids called? x

KnickerlessParsons · 31/05/2023 22:38

I have 4 s's in my name. I had a lisp as a child and had to have speech therapy.

Pemba · 31/05/2023 22:36

I like Romilly but don't like Wren.

JimJamJo · 31/05/2023 22:34

Sorry I know it wasn't what you were asking but I really like Delphine

ashitghost · 31/05/2023 21:18

Daphne Wren

Ginger1982 · 30/05/2023 20:48

Presumably as Wren is her middle name it won't be used much so Romily Ch...sounds fine.

I love it, my daughter is Bromily Beth, so very similar!

I mispronounced it as Bromily Breath 🙈

Crabwoman · 30/05/2023 20:29

I love the name Romilly. Unfortunately it's a town near us so could never use it. But it in my top 5.

AdaColeman · 30/05/2023 20:15

I like Romilly a lot, a super cool grown up name. But I don't think it matches well with Wren, Romilly Wren sounds like a Beatrix Potter character, especially with the alliteration.

OTOH Delphine is an absolutely beautiful name, so I hope you use it, and forget about Wren.

Chispazo · 30/05/2023 20:04

I like Romilly but not Wren in the middle. I agree that Wren Chapman or Wren Chandler or Wren Churchill does have Wrench in the middle. Pick a different middle name I suugest

TheMurderousGoose · 30/05/2023 20:03

Wren is very trendy and will probably date, similar to Dawn or Gail, but as middle name that doesn't matter so much.

Romilly is nice. As is Delphi

Pianono · 30/05/2023 20:02

Lovely names but not sure about them together. How about Romilly Maude?

KirstenBlest · 30/05/2023 20:00

Not keen on Wren, although the bird is ok.
Romilly is awful.
Delphine is nice

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 30/05/2023 19:57

Oh god, not another Mae. As pp says, an overdone and naff filler name. Fay is a lot better.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 30/05/2023 19:54

It feels very ‘of the moment’, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

It’s definitely better than Romilly Mae, though. Please not Mae (or May, Rose or Grace).

You might as well not bother with a middle name at all, if you’re just going to use one of those filler names that zillions of other girls of this generation has.

There are so many lovely names out there. You can do better than a default, filler name.

PickledPurplePickle · 30/05/2023 19:47

If you like it, then use it, nobody uses their middle name day to day anyway

MonumentalLentil · 30/05/2023 19:44

I like not is like, or is nice...

MonumentalLentil · 30/05/2023 19:43

Womiwy Wen when she is with her little fwiends.

Romilly has never seemed like a name to me, more like something you do to repair a washing machine or something, Wren was a relatives surname which is like as a surname but not a first name.

TheaBrandt · 30/05/2023 19:30

My teen has a mate called Romily lovely girl universally known as Rom

JaggySplinter · 30/05/2023 19:27

Names are too personal to really ask online, surely? If you like it, then go for it.

I think it's awful, too twee and cutesy. But then my DC have very average, typical British names. Particularly for girls I think it's important to have a name that can suit professional situations as well as a younger child and teen.

callmesophia · 30/05/2023 18:43

Ah thanks folks, I do appreciate your replies. My 7 year old is also a R - R name, and it's never been weird.

I'm a fan of Romilly Mae, that's very sweet!

Go with that then, it does sound better.

Maireas · 30/05/2023 19:09

Lovelynames123 · 30/05/2023 18:32

I love it, my daughter is Bromily Beth, so very similar!

Bromily is a different take, but alliterative with Beth. It's nice but does she get called Romilly by mistake?
