Really liking the name Pascal. Is that mental hormones?
I grew up in Ireland and I'm sure I heard it somewhere maybe..
is it a nice name or am I mad to even consider?

I’ll wager that the OP has gone with another name 😉

It could be a sibling name for Ada

French and yes it's a boy's name. I like it.

it’s french, can also be Pascale for a girl.
it is a very old name though, as in your grand dad is called Pascal.

Should add I like it in French. With an English accent it sounds pretty awful.

I don’t get a lot of difference between the English and French pronunciation? Pass (as in mass) - Cal.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 30/07/2023 12:21

It is ultimately Greek from the Greek word for Easter - Pascha.

newfloorplease · 30/07/2023 11:07

The ex Irish Finance Minister is called Paschal Donohoe.
He's now Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform and is President of the Eurogroup whatever that is.
It's generally pronounced Paskel.
The French version Pascal is pronounced Pascaal.
In Ireland I think it would be regarded as a "Catholic" name, parents of baby probably religious.

MonumentalLentil · 30/07/2023 10:59

I knew a French Pascal once, a female.

scarceiron · 30/07/2023 10:57

I really like it - especially if their birthday will be around Easter.

Hearti · 06/06/2023 04:22

I like pascal and Patrice

@EmptyBedBlues

Hang on - you’re saying you know men called Florence?!

I don't think it's a popular option for boys any more, but there was a head of intelligence in the Cork brigade in the War of Independence who was named Florence (a man).

mathanxiety · 06/06/2023 04:07

There used to be a non prime time DJ on RTE called Pascal Mooney. He had a show featuring a segment called the Lonely Hearts Club. Listeners sent descriptions of their tractors...

It's a nice name but I associate it with rural Ireland in the mid 80s.

sashh · 06/06/2023 03:22

My first thought is a programming language and my second is a unit of pressure.

mosiacmaker · 06/06/2023 03:00

I work with a lot of Europeans and we have plenty of Pascals in the company! I think it sounds nice but don’t know any of the cultural connotations

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 06/06/2023 02:59

I absolutely love it.
Great name.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 06/06/2023 02:56

Awful 😖
Pascal the Rascal
Fruit pastel

DontTouchMyMug · 05/06/2023 22:58

I never watch stuff like he's been in. Not judging it, but not our type of thing

Riiiiiight

I think I must be a bit old for him, as he seems to be in films and TV shows based on video games or comics

I’ve never seen him on anything. I just saw him on social media.

And I saw him many years ago on Buffy but I didn’t remember him 😂 he was killed quickly in one episode and she never mentions him again.

Why resist the temptation? I would normally just Google and find out.

He’s a quite famous actor who is having his sort of moment in the sun right now. That’s why it brings him to mind for me, because he’s generally quite well known at the moment. It’s not a bad thing to bring to mind as such, but because it’s such an unusual name and he is popular right now, I think many people would think of him.

I've never heard of anyone called 'Pedro Pascal'. Resisting the temptation to Google. Who is he?

He is an actor and quite honestly I don't mind bringing him to mind 😉

Ah, OK. Now Googled. I never watch stuff like he's been in. Not judging it, but not our type of thing. Except I see he was in an episode of Nurse Jackie, and one of Homeland, so we must have seen him.

clpsmum · 05/06/2023 19:53

I like it

I think it’s a nice name but bad timing, since I think right now it will bring Pedro Pascal to mind for most people.

I know a female Pascale, she is the only person I have heard of with that name. NB her mother is French not that it matters.
