Looking for something very unique

I have an Ezra already, which was a lot less common at the time.

Trying to find a unique name for a boy and girl.

Currently like:

Girls:

Kalani
Arazo
Melody
Mali
Amila

Boys:

Kobe
Rio
Keanu

Any opinions or suggestions would be great!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Maireas · 26/05/2023 07:25

Everyone who reads it is going to say Mah- li.
Unusual spellings and pronunciations can be a pain. Call her Marley. It's different according to rhotic or non rhotic dialects, but the latter would be clearer. Unless you have an affinity for that African country.

I’m confused as to why “Mali” is pronounced “Marley”?

The OP said it would be pronounced that way.

Rainbowqueeen · 26/05/2023 02:18

I like Melody and Kobe best from your list and think they go nicely with Ezra.
The other names are either not especially unique to me or in the case of your girls names are fairly common just with unusual spellings. Don’t do that to a child.

Other options:
Girls
Indigo
Cassia
Miranda

Boys
Simon
Declan
Keegan

Kalani - makes me think of GoT
Arazo - quite like but similar to a brand of coffee
Melody - been around for years
Mali - prefer the traditional spelling
Amila - makes me think of those tiny white spots you can get

Boys:

Kobe - One Kinobe
Rio - Ferdinand
Keanu - long standing Eastenders character.

I’m confused as to why “Mali” is pronounced “Marley”?

sunnydaysandhappythoughts · 26/05/2023 02:04

Unusual or less common fair enough but why inflict a name on a child that may impact future career choices? Unfortunately some employers will judge names that are unique.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 26/05/2023 01:49

Poor bloody child! 😥

Wow can people stop being so shitty to the OP?

Ok so she mistake used "very" before unique. Not the point of the thread and patronising to keep raising it.

And yep, we get that some of you only approve of children as human beings if they are named Susan, Jane, Thomas, Michael or some other Enid Blyton middle class yawn, but the OP's son is called Ezra and she's looking for a name that goes with that so she's not going to choose Elizabeth, ok?

The only way to get a unique name is to invent one from scratch. That is what unique means; "one of a kind".

That's the point.

Which is fine. Invent brand new names if you want. Or ask for unusual names. Nobody has to call their child Susan.

KirstenBlest · 26/05/2023 00:02

@giggly, you can't have 'unique enough'. Something is either unique or not.

I don't understand the Mali/Marley comment. I say them the same, although if I saw the name Mali on a list of girls' names, I'd say it as Mally.

Marcipex · 25/05/2023 23:58

I know an Amadeus, a Maverick, a Nevaeh and a Rio.
I was at school with a Melody and a Loveday in the Dark Ages. I think you’ll find it very difficult to find a unique name.
Just go for something moderately uncommon and use the normal spelling.
Ezra and Cara
Ezra and Amos
Ezra and Luca
Ezra and Miranda

giggly · 25/05/2023 23:56

How on earth do you get Marley from Mali? Why not just go for Marley or is not unique enough for you.

scrivette · 25/05/2023 23:32

Names I have only come across once and I like...

Amity
Persephone
Indigo
Serendipity
Alba
Primrose

otherwayup · 25/05/2023 23:13

@pottytrainingggg
I think there's quite a few names in between 'Aroza' and Susan
