Hello,

We are struggling to decide on a boy's name. I like old-fashioned baby names...but they have to feel fresh and not too old-man if you know what I mean.

Big sister is called Agnes. Which one of these baby boy names do you think go with her name?

Otto
August
Edmund (Eddie)
Rufus
Bernhard (Barney)
Timothy (Timo)
^^
??

Love Edgar, DD was nealy Agnes or Agatha.

If she was a boy it was going to be Wilfred.
Love

I like Edmund, but not Eddie, I hate shortened names.

Rufus is nice too

Elspethelf · 05/01/2024 19:46

From your list, I like Agnes and Edmund (Ned)
I also like…
Agnes and Sidney (Sid)
Agnes and Harold (Hal)
Agnes and Wilfred (Wilf)
Agnes and Wolfgang (Wolf)

Winston! Win is such a strong nickname too!

Another vote for the chancellor Otto.
My dear friend Agnes has a brother called Oskar, which I also like.

noooooooo · 05/01/2024 18:21

I love Otto and Agnes. I regret not calling my DD Agnes.

Can I also suggest Christie, Hector and Hughie.

wasanneofcleves · 05/01/2024 18:20

Also why do we think Otto is trendy? It's on my list for a boy but I can't work out how popular it is because it wasn't in the top 100 in 2021 and we don't know any.

wasanneofcleves · 05/01/2024 18:19

I like them all but prefer Barnaby as a long name for Barney

Anthea
Crispen sp- I’m not sure if it’s vintage or it’s age

Ooh I love Ralph as a boysname (Lord of the Flies hero)

If DD had been a DS , she'd have been Victor (Vic) or Zac

And we had a guinea-pig that DD called Bert . There is no better , solid, dependable old mans name than "Bert" (not Bertie)

Muncha · 27/05/2023 08:17

Ernest. But I would go for Otto.

Giselletheunicorn · 27/05/2023 07:50

August and Edmund are both lovely.

(FYI, I know two dogs called Otto. It screams 'Labrador' to me.)

oldnorsesaga · 26/05/2023 20:02

My favorite old man name that feels usable again and it's not trendy is Clarence. But maybe I'm wrong.

Frederick

Otto or Timothy get my vote
