Something less popular...

So when I was pregnant with DS 5 years ago, we were certain we'd use the name Sienna if it were a girl. As he was a boy, we chose Oliver. We love this name but it is SO popular. I'm now expecting a girl and Sienna is still my favourite but it is also incredibly popular; there are two in DS's class!
I might still use it, but I'd ideally want something a bit less common.

What more unusual names have similar vibes?
My DH suggested Sierra, but I'm not sold on it.

I like Savannah but I can't think of any nice nicknames (Sienna would be CeCe for short).

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Amdone123 · 24/05/2023 20:40

My first thought was Celeste, nn Cece.
I love Tamsin. I taught a Tamsin - Pearl. I think it's the only hyphenated name I ever liked. But then, she was a joy.
If you like Felicity, I think Verity, Liberty and Imogen are in the same vein.
I love Seren. Not Senna..and not Sierra !

I like Senen. I only know one Sienna but my children are both older now. I would steer clear of Sierra - 80s car.

I'm sorry that name makes me laugh, it sounds how I start to try and say synonym 😂

We've actually talked about Cecelia as an option and both really like it but we don't like the meaning. It means 'blind', which I just find a bit off-putting.

@Un2Trois You are so on my vibe, I love the majority of these names. I agree Tamsin is really beautiful.
Felicity is my number 2 most favourite name (behind Sienna) but DH has said no. :(

I love Cecilia. St Cecilia is the patron saint of music of that puts a different spin on the meaning?
I also really like Sienna, who cares if it’s popular if you like it go for it

babname · 24/05/2023 18:09

@GeraltsBathtub My great aunt was Cecelia (not why we like the name) and that's how she spelled it. She was Irish, so it may be a more popular variant over there?

Allegra, Claudia and India are all very pretty. Such lovely suggestions, thanks all for giving me a little 'shake up', I've been fixating on some of the same names for the last few weeks and this has really helped.

Struggling to see how CeCe is short for Sienna...if you like CeCe could she be Cecily? That was on our list and I still love it!

Really? 'Cee' is the sound at the beginning of sienna so cece is pretty logical

It’s Cecilia. Definitely don’t use a name you can’t spell! What about Claudia for a similar Roman theme?

India?

Classes change, people move away. My daughter started nursery as one of 4 across 2 classes with the same name. There's now three across the whole school and none in her year.

Use the name you love. You won't regret it.

CeCe isn't short for Sienna, that will be very confusing

SauceForTheGoose · 24/05/2023 17:58

Sienna is very popular.

What about Cecelia? So pretty and dignified.
