Sister for Alfred

We are having twins, a boy and girl.
We have decided on Alfred for the boy, to be known day to day as Fred. It’s a family name with sentimental value.

We are struggling to agree on a girls name. Between us we like:
Polly
Heidi
Florence
Flora
Elodie
Evie
Ivy

Which name do people like best or do they have any other suggestions?

@Dinosaursdontgrowontrees Fred and Evie makes a beautiful combo, you have great taste in names! ;) Evie is definitely one of my favourites from the list.

@HuntingoftheSnark haha good point re Tesco! 😂 Doesn’t bother us too much though.

Out of interest, why is the same initial a problem? They will be different genders so post would come under Miss, Mr etc? Am I overlooking something?

I suppose I think it could be confusing - just personal preference. I have an ex who's one of six, and all their names begin with J! They managed fine.

I have an Alfred his sister is Evelyn (Fred and Evie)
we get lots of compliments about their names.

Also most post would probably come under formal name Alfred so would be a different initial?

I liked Alfred a lot, no way said DH.
I don't share your taste in girl names, sorry.
Evelyn (Evie) is closest that appeals to me.

Maybe these are to your taste? What about Helena (5 different pronunciations, though), Louisa, Daniela, Catherine (then you'd have 2 Greats...), Katrina, Penelope, Laurel ?

Fred and Polly has a lovely ring to it.
Alfred and Mary/Elizabeth as full names. I've never really understood how Mary or Elizabeth was 'shortened' to Polly but it was very common.

SullysBabyMama · 23/05/2023 19:59

I would avoid anything beginning with F. All your names are lovely though!

I like Flora the best, then Florence, Elodie and Ivy.

Alfred and Emmeline
Alfred and Sophie
Alfred and Ottilie
Alfred and Marian
Alfred and Eloise
Alfred and Violet
Alfred and Beatrice
Alfred and Thea
Alfred and Noemi
Alfred and Noelle or Noelia
Alfred and Evangeline
Alfred and Cecily
Alfred and Lydia
Alfred and Valeria
Alfred and Georgina

Agree with @HuntingoftheSnark
and:
Alfred and Emma
Alfred and Chloe

HuntingoftheSnark · 23/05/2023 19:46

I'd steer clear of Florence, because Florence & Fred is the Tesco's clothing line. I adore Flora but probably would avoid the same initial if possible. I think Ivy is lovely and goes really well with both Alfred and Fred.
