Help me name our fourth boy

We really struggled with naming our third son, we had a few names picked out but couldn't decide which one.
When he was born there was a particular name that we had never considered before but it just seemed to suit him.
He is an adult now and had always really liked his name.

James is actually my favourite boys name so I'd use that. Nn Jimmy.

I have an Ollie who is now 20 and my second choice name was Dylan!
When I got pregnant again after an 8 year gap I had quite a few boys names at the ready but had a girl.
here were some of them ( assuming we have similar taste ha )

Theodore with a nickname of Teddy?

I had a similar rule when DH vetoed everything when I was pregnant with DS1. Everything I suggested was met with 'no, Dave*'. And no other suggestion.
I eventually told him that I was never going to agree to 'Dave', and so it was off the table. He agreed but said that he felt the same about my first choice.

He had no other list. So when I went to my second choice and paired it with the middle name we'd chosen, he liked the full thing immediately.

Your choices are lovely. I have a James. He prefers James but is often called Jim, and sometimes Jimmy or Jimothy (as a PP joked above). Never Jay or Jamie.

James and Edward were on our list (as was Alexander). I really liked Elliot but DH not keen. Robert and Adam also on the list. I also like Mark, Thomas and Laurence (nn Laurie).

Love all of those. Always loved Will but my brother got in their first with his son who is a William.

I was in your position last summer trying to come up with a name for our 4th boy! We went with Benjamin but one of my others is a James and he never gets called Jay, we actually mostly call him Jamesy! You’ll have to let us know what you go for 😃 welcome to the 4 boys club

Love this - it means “god is heard” which I think is always as if you prayed for your darling baby and here he is!

A tip I have for those dealing with the frequent vetoers, is a rule I made up. No free vetoes. In order to veto a name, a new one needs to be suggested in it's place. :)

If none can be provided, than you get to pick the name. Because honestly, I think it's better for you to have a name you love than to have one that he doesn't hate. lol

My son has a friend called Ted. Only found out recently that his full name is Edward, not Theodore. So you can definitely use Ted/Teddy rather than Ed/Eddie.

I like Edward and James better than Elliott.

James Edward or Edward James - both perfect.

Elliott seems a bit trendy/surname compared to Oliver and Alexander to me (as well as having spelling issues eg. Elliot).

Adore classic Edward and James though and I think they match really well. I agree though that many teenage or older Edward's seem to get shortened to Ed so you'd need to be prepared for that (although I don't think they necessarily get Eddie). Most James I've met these days don't have nicknames - although personally I love the medieval nn Jem for it.

I'd assume Alexander and Oliver's brother would have a similarly classic style name- if not Edward or James then likely William, Thomas, Henry, Samuel, Daniel, George, Charles or Joseph, or something like Nathaniel, Maximilian, Nicholas, Laurence, Benedict etc if you want to go less popular

James is a bit overused and Edward/Teddy done to death. I’m not keen on Elliot personally

Just bear in mind the nn you choose for your lo may not be the nn they choose to be known by when they get older.

My ds2 has a classic name and family know him as one thing, but amongst his friends he's known as a different common nn (which I don't like), but he says he prefers. Obviously I'll respect the fact he wants to be known by the other nn to his friends and he respects that I get "mother's perogotive" and the name i call him is special to family only).

I love Ted/Teddy and as a PP said, if you go with that NN, that’s what people will use. We have a DD with a particular nickname which isn’t necessarily the one you’d expect for that name and it has defo stuck.
